Hello all,
I took my first car trip with the Hammer S running Google Maps this weekend.  Up until now, all my driving has been done with an iPhone 4S.
I found that the Hammer S GPS capabilities did not seem to be as accurate as the iPhone is.  Several times Google Maps just lost its position, or misreported it.  A couple if times I got into a panic because I appeared to be on the wrong road, but it was just that the GPS position was not correct (It showde me on a road close to the road I was actually on a few times)

Has anyone else had any experience of the Hammer S GPS capabilities when it comes to Maps?

Thanks

reverend

Hi reverend,

That is interesting. When you are driving is the phone in the same location as where you previously had your iPhone?

Which GPS settings have you enabled on your Hammer S?

I suggest you to check the accuracy with GPS Test
Should get a value under 30 meters (90 feet) for proper navigation. If you get a much higher value under the free sky, then your GPS antenna might need to be mended.

Thanks both,

It is a route that I have only driven once before (London to Oxford) so actually may not be a completely fair comparison.  I could have put both phones on to do a proper fair test.  I don't know why I didnt think of that!

I've got Location services on with 'high accuracy' and wireless also.

I have downloaded GPS Test thanks.  What a fascinating app!  I am getting a 3D fix with 9 of 12 visible satellites in use.  I get an accuracy reading of between 16 and 3 metres.  The reading seems to change every second and varies quickly.

Running the same app on my wife's LG Nexus 4 reveals quite different results.  It uses 8 of 22 visible satellites! But shows an accuracy of between 20 and 60 metres!

Hello all,

After numerous car trips using my Umi Hammer S and iPhone 4S side by side with Google maps, I can confirm that the Hammer S does seem to be inferior with GPS navigation.  Google Maps on the Hammer will frequently get lost, start spinning around and around, or indicate a position on a parallel or nearby street.

I guess you get what you pay for...

Interesting.... as I had this problem on the UMI zero, it was fairly bad and similar to what you describe.
I have just received the Hammer and tried it and it appears to be fine... to date!

It looks that there are many umi hammer s  where GPS not working at all, mine too - http://community.umidigi.com/thread-2278-1-1.html
When you writing about poor working google maps on umi I suppose that reason is that it using internet to get your position, not GPS module, try to do some test with aps like AndroiTS GPS Test for example,
try to tourn off AGPS, and enable device GPS only.
It will probably show that UMI sold us a phone wihout GPS in fact
