I will rma the phone.
The serial number was gone too, its not in the box. How can i find it?

If it goes with a random serial number to rma it will cause problms?

This happened to me as well. Had the phone for about 3 months, and the sensor just went dark suddenly. I know for a fact that there was no physical trauma to the phone. Hopefully 7.1.1 will fix the issue unless it's hardware related.

Update, reboot didn't fix the issue. However a complete shutdown worked like a charm. Whatever happened to me, was a software related issue.
