File transfers (MTP / PTP) don't work - SOLVED

Hello,

I am trying to make file transfers via USB but my phone does not get recognized by the system.
I have tried in both OSX and Windows and I have the same problem on both OSs.
It is as if the phone is always on "Charging Only" mode, and as if MTP never gets switched on, no matter if I have chosen it from the "Developer options" menu.
I have tried with the two last ROM updates and I have the problem with both ROMs.

Is that a problem of my device?
Or all UMI Zs have the same problem?
This is very annoying problem.

Do you have the phone unlocked with the fingerprint sensor ?

If i plug in my phone without unlocking it, then i can see it in win10, but i can only see what is in it if i unlock it.

when i first got the z i was able to connect to it on the computer, but that suddenly stopped, reinstalling win 10 on my computer fixed this again, and so for a good month or so i have been able to use my phone on the PC again.

My computer just dident want to install the MTP driver, no matter what i tried, but reinstalling win10 and so windows itself doing the MTP driver seem to have worked.

This issue are annoying indeed, and should be high on to fix list.

Also with phone connected to USB 3.0 port on my computer i get really slow transfer speeds to internal memory or the U3 memory card in the phone. at best USB 1.0 speeds so it take forever to move 2 GB from the computer to the phone.

Hello,
I already have USB debugging enabled and I already have tried to connect with the phone unlocked.
But the phone will not be even seen by the computer. As I said, it is like it is always on charging mode, no matter what I do.
Is that because I have encrypted user data?
Or I have a defective phone?
Please, let me know if you have any information on that.

If you have any type of screen lock you need remove and when you connect phone to computer then unlock phone go to settings - type in to search USB and "select USB configuration" - choose MTP. Sometimes your phone screen needs to be activated to transfer files. Here is MTP driver installation instruction
