This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V7.01_20170413 Android 7.0 firmware
for UMI MAX

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMI MAX receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again.

WARNING!
It is an Android version upgrade. Always flash this ROM as 'Firmware Upgrade', not 'Download Only' if you are upgrading an Android 6.0 system!

Changelog:
  • Error report of power saving mode fixed
  • Dialling issue in Russia region fixed
  • Camera extra two 13Mp options removed

Known bug: Fast charging is still unstable causing much slower battery charging at some handsets if you've bought a PE fast charger separately!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Flashtool tutorials: UMI Forum or androidxda guide or YouTube guide (you can google a lot of other solutions and guides)

>>>>> ROM: 20170413_c239v55_kw_u11.rar <<<<< - Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6755_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other elements

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMI MAX if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop.
1. Connect your UMI MAX to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to either the internal memory or the SD card of your phone
  • Go to Settings --> About phone --> Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button at the top right corner and select Local updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Tap Install now, comfirm the process with OK and wait until the process will be finished

>>>>> Update file for manual OTA update: UMi_MAX_V7.01_20170413_update.zip <<<<<

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • When your phone is restarted, immediately release the power button but still hold the vol-up button until you see a lying android figure with an exclamation mark in red triangle on its tummy.
  • Press and hold the power and vol-up buttons (in this order) together, then release them to call the recovery menu. Now you can move with the volume buttons and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation you can read the ''Install from sdcard complete'' message and the recovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

Hi UMI,

I think you need to slow down the rate of new phones your bringing out and start addressing customer issues. There are a lot of people on this forum that 'bag out' UMI because you simply are ignoring valid issues that need attention.

The charging seriously needs a hotfix creating for it so that we don't end up with battery issues and serious battery issues that could cause exploding batteries. Whatever the charging issue is that we the Max users are facing we need this fixing. Do we actually know what is going on here with the charging?

We cannot use our phones in the same way we have been able to and downgrades should not be an option.

Can you please come to the party and fix the issue? You really need to prioritize your development a lot better.

Maybe the end of battery issue

Edited by feketeimre at 2017-4-29 02:00 \n\nUpdate
After a night (in airplane mode) and a whole day with normal usage (some call, messages, facebook, google, bluetooth, wifi, 4G)
my phone lost only 35% of its power. I hope this will be permanent.
I suggest to everyone to try to wipe cache partition.

note: I did a full SPTools flash with this ROM, so it was a clean installation.

cheers

I tried a solution to the slow recharge problem and seems it works.
All you need is to wipe Cache partition.
First of all, there is only temporary files which are remaining of an update.
Here are the steps:
1. Turn off the phone
2. Enter to the recovery
Hold down the Volume up and Power button up to 5 seconds. When u see the UMI logo, u can release them.
If u get a "No command" message (i got), u can press again the two buttons (Volume up + Power) and release about 2-5 times.
3. If u are in the recover menu, choose the "Wipe Cache partition" (Down with volume down, activate with Power button)
It will be a few seconds only.
4. Choose "Reboot system now" from menu.

After this procedure my phone recharges itself from 60% to 100% in 40 minutes.

I hope it will solve your problem too.

I doubled the installation via SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628.rar and the device seems to be crazy ... it reboots itself, it does not connect to the internet, it crashes when I put a SIM card ... anyway I'm very sad to have purchased it and now I'm weighing Paper in the hands not serving for anything.

Until now, for me it's working without major issues..the major issue seem to be battery draining, which is faster than in android 6..

From the update to android 7N, the load is very slow, arriving to take 5 or 6 hours with an original quick charger of Umi. We ask for a solution, and a new update comes out to solve it.

Bencebacsi, do you know something about the next update's release date? I am considering to downgrade back to Marshmallow. The N's power management is successful. Draining & sloooow charging.  Post time 2017-5-28 16:45
The devs are already working on the solution. Please be patient until the next update.  Post time 2017-5-26 05:43

Facebook stopped working notification really annoys me. And of course Facebook app is still working  ...

May be application "Facebook" stooped by "Task Killer"?

Well my umi max after seven months get pregnant. My battery crash with android 7 and inflated. Now t ...

I am so sorry. That is my bigest fear about this long charging time.
I hope umi will make something, because it losts a lot of costumer.
After a week my "fast" (with android 6 it was the normal) charging ended.
Three apps updated themselfes: Messenger, Gmail, Google Drive.
I tried again wipe the cache partition and it seems the charging time is going back to normal (fast).

Something is fu**ing wrong with the Nougat. It is bitter than i thought in first sight.

Hi. I absolutely agree with feketeimre. With 6.0 I got easily two days of use with my Max, sometimes even three days. Now with 7.0 I get one day. If I use the phone very little, I may get two days, but at the end of day two the battery level is very low. And if I start charging with less than 20% battery level, the charging takes so long that the phone will not be fully charged in the morning when I wake up. So in practice I have to charge the phone daily. This would be OK for a phone with a small or average size battery, but really, a phone with a 4000 mAh battery should do better than this.

A question to administrator: are these issues with battery drain and slow charging recognized and admitted problems by developers, and are they working on solving them in a future update? If not, then going back to 6.0 seems to be the only solution.

Thanks.

They don't acknowledge the issues. They say it doesn't drain fast and that we all have apps that use too much battery. And I think it's better to leave it like that. Maybe some developers will build custom ROMs for this phone and we'll have diversity. Frankly, I'm over it. The software team can't handle it and it's understandable since they released so many phones. They can't keep up with this pace. Anyway, I started charging everyday, in the evening, because I can't afford losing power during the day. With 6.0 I never had to worry about it. Two days of power guaranteed. I think I will return to 6.0 if these issues don't get fixed and stick to searching other ROMs.

Edited by LeXuZ at 2017-4-20 00:57 \n\nJust a heads up. The original fast charger from.umi that came with the phone also doesn't work. It only does slow charging. I did not do a hard reset yet. Straight from Android 6 to this version via all otas available.
Edit: this is weird. I'm sure I've posted this on the umi super rom section. Anyway I'm talking about the umi super  not the umi Max.
