This guide is about how to flash your UMIDIGI smartphone built with Unisoc (Spreadtrum) SoC, using the SPD UpgradeDownload tool
Attention! the official method to update the system software of your phone is the wireless (OTA) update method, that you can receive automatically. It is highly recommended to use this tool only in case of emergency, if something went wrong with the wireless update (it cannot start, gets stuck etc.) or if your system is malfunctioning due to damaged or missing system contents.
WARNING! This process will erase your user data, therefore after flashing, your phone will start with its factory settings!
What you need:
- A compatible version of SPD UpgradeDownload tool that you can download on the same page where your ROM is available.
The SPD UpgradeDownload application is compatible with 32-bit Windows XP and Vista, and with 64-bit Windows 7, 8.0, 8.1, 10 and 11. The compatibility with other Windows releases is not guaranteed. For this guide, a 64-bit Windows 11 machine was used with all the latest updates installed.
Let's get started step by step
You have to turn off your phone before starting the flashing process and keep it turned off (don't touch it) until you finish!
1. Download and
Extract the SPD_Driver_R4.20.0201.rar file, then start the driver installation by running DriverSetup.exe.
1b (optional) Check whether your Windows system can properly identify and install the drivers of your phone in preloader mode.
Turn off your phone, open Windows Device Manager, then connect your phone to USB while pressing and holding the volume-down button.
You should see an
SPRD U2S Diag com port as on the picture below. (The port number might be different on your machine). Without starting a flashing process, the preloader mode will be active only for a few seconds, then your phone will automatically switch into battery charging mode.
If everything is alright, disconnect your phone from USB. If you can't see anything or an unidentified device appears, check your internet connection, admin rights on your Windows, the USB cable, the USB port on your computer and do not use a USB hub.
2. Extract the ROM file (.pac) from the downloaded .rar compressed ROM file. It's an uncompressed archive that contains all the resources needed for flashing. The flasher app will extract its content in its own folder, and automatically delets the extracted content as soon as you close the flasher app.
3. Extract the downloaded SPD UpgradeDownload tool .rar file, then run UpgradeDownload.exe.
4. Select the single cog button in the top left corner, and brows for your .pac file. The content of the .pac file is going to be extracted that you can track on the bottom progress bar. Wait until the extraction is finished.
5. Select the arrow (play) button to start the flashing process.
6. Your phone must be powered off! Now press and hold the volume-down button of your phone, and while keeping the vol-down button pressed, connect it to USB. The flashing process gets started and you can see which partition is being flashed and how the flashing process is going. You may release the vol-down button as soon as the flashing process has started.
Once all partitions have been flashed, you can see the following screen showing 'Passed' as Progress and 'Finish' as Status.
7. Now the flashing process is finished but the app is still looking for the next device to be flashed. So press the Stop (rectangular) button, and disconnect your phone from USB. Now you can close the flasher app and reboot your phone. Your phone will reboot with its factory settings.
