Hi all,

I can report that both of my Irons have the audio clicking issue and they were both part of separate manufacturing runs (as one came with old firmware while the other came with V1.5). Hopefully this points to it being a software issue rather then a hardware issue.

The big question remains, is there anyone who doesn't have this issue?

I have received my Umi Iron from Amazon in UK and can report I have both the problems 1. Phone freezing at high headphone volumes (fixed by tweaking in engineer mode) 2. Audio clicking sound in headphones (between tracks, any other sounds while listening to music).

There are other threads in UK where users have also reported same issue, so much so that couple of them are returning their devices. If you want, I can check with these users to report this here but I think this is an issue with all the handsets. I would like to persist and hope these issues are fixed soon.

Thanks

Hi nervncalm,

I've reported this issue to UMI again to see if I can get any feedback. The fact that it is popping up on many (if not all) phones I think is a good sign as it could be an indicator of a software fault rather then a few handsets having a hardware fault.

Also, please encourage the other users on the UK threads to join up and comment here. I think the more users we have asking about it, the quicker we are likely to hear back about a possible fix.

Cheers,

I experimented a little bit with settings and now I think this issue may can be fixed in software.
Seems like the reason is the second one I mentioned before. (the system shuts down the "sound subsystem" and start again) (Or maybe it just get too much voltage at start.)

I'v tried PowerAmp and I have no problem with popping noise between track changes and seeking. You only hear the noise on play/pause.

Comments

It would seem that the 'click' is caused by the audio sub-system powering down/up. When using a streaming source or a music player with a 'gapless' or 'crossfade' function this does not happen.  Post time 2015-9-6 02:57
I can confirm the same thin with Deezer, no popping noise between tracks but only with "start/pause"  Post time 2015-8-29 03:24

As well as the clicking sound and shutdowns at high volumes I'm getting interference when a track fades in/out (almost like a bad quality mp3 rip) on every track (320kbps etc) (even in Poweramp). This is with moderate viper settings. Anyone else get this?

Umiironman, I haven't noticed this but I don't use Viper. Also I re-calibrated the bottom half of the volume settings.

I have the same problem. What's more I've found that sound quality is really bad. I can hear the noise like on old vinyls. And when I pop up the volume over 40-50℅ the bass crash and makes unpleasant noise with and without eq even on YouTube songs. I tried it with many headphones from 17$ to 200$.

Hi all. After updating to ROM v1.6 the audio click has become much softer and not as frequent. I'd suggest updating and seeing if that helps you.
Hopefully it will be completely eliminated in the future!

After updating to 1.6 the audio click are exactly the same as v1.5 for me. It's strange that you noticed a better behavior
