Can someone categorically confirm if UMI will ever release a version of Android v5.1 for the emax handset.

The lack of official information is ridiculous. I couldn't possibly recommend there products at this time.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING!?

It is highly unlikely, that UMI will ever release a working Lollipop Rom for the Emax. They do not have any source code, their only plan was to modify a TCL firmware, that runs,  but without mobile connection and camera, which was destinied to fail.
The only way to get Lollipop is UMI paying TCL/Mediatek/Whatever, but that is not going to happen.
There are multiple guides on the internet for porting Lollipop to Kitkat on Mediatek Devices, but unfortunately these do not work on our eMax, because our MTK6752 supports 64 bit and every Lollipop for this processor you can find is compilated for 64 bit, while the Kitkat Roms are always 32 bit. You cant port a 64 Rom to a 32 bit Rom.
I got myself some Lollipop source code for MTK6752 based devices from Lenovo, in hope that I could compile them in 32 bit to port them to our eMax, but I aint even sure, if their source code is complete and how to use it correctly.
So, well, right now it looks pretty dark. I recommend not to buy UMI, if you want updates. They are more interested in selling new phones to you rather that you upgrade your phone.

We know complaints from all eMAX users about Lollipop update. The great error from UMI maybe was to promise Lollipop on this device before be implemented, is true, but UMI promised that because though that Mediatek finally could liberate source code for this chipset and then update could be made.
At this moment, all UMI devices with chipsets which have Lollipop available, are coming with Lollipop. UMI would like to update all his devices to the last available android version but sometimes is very difficult because outside problems.

Edited by DANIBOY77 at 2015-11-18 22:38 \n\nThe problem is that on the product page of umi is the Emax with lollipop ...
and is sold everywhere as running lollipop ...

UMI always indicates the update in the specifications of Emax (5.0) , so what, they lie for sell ?

Emax with lollipop (specs) :

So UMI promised the potential buyers that it would upgrade that specific product because it thought, let's emphasize the THOUGHT, it's supplyer would give free access?

One of the UMI's best products it's based on thought.... "I think therefore I am..."

That's the main diference between chinese and western companies... Western companies don't think... They make sure that will happen!

In the meanwhile, we have a great phone (better than some of the new models of UMI) with un outdated OS! All because they don't want to pay their supplyer because they thought the supplyer would provide what they wanted by the goodness of their heart!

Well UMI could still sue TCL or Mediatek for violating the GPL to get the Lollipop source code, but chinese smartphone developers usually seem to ignore this fact. Actually, we could sue them for not releasing the source code of our eMax, but who got the time and money for that...
UMI could solve the hole Lollipop situation by paying the right people. But now, after everyone has already bought their phone, they can make more money by getting the Emax users to buy one of their countless new phones.

DANIBOY77, I don't even mention that... I'm talking about what the user/administrator UMI_Angel wrote about UMI eMAX.

I know that they still advertise the product with a Lollipop update, but I bought my eMAX 17th of August with that same promise...

Still waiting... and by the looks of it I might as well get a comfortable seat...
