I'm not having much luck with this.  

I've tried the update.zip method via recovery mode.  I just get an 'aborted' error message when I try to run the update.  Ive tried reformatting the SD card but to no avail.

I've tried the SPFT method but I cannot get further than the red progress bar getting to 100%.  I suspect that is because the drivers are not installing properly on my PC.

I haven't tested the recovery method but that can work with a custom recovery (rootjoy or twrp) only, not with the stock recovery. Do you already have a custom recovery on your phone?
If you get the red progress bar in SPFT, your drivers should be ok. Do you get an error message? The content of that might be important.

Thinking about twrp, i will lok into installing that.  i have Rootjoy on my PC but i cant see a way to use it to install a custom recovery

You're welcome. You can install custom recovery images with Rootjoy. Look at the attached screenshot.

ah forgot to say, yes there is an error message in SPFT.  Please see attached

Do i have to installa specific customer recovery with Rootjoy.  I mean, is there a specific custom recovery file that i must download that works with the Hammer S?

Possible solutions:
1. Reboot your Windows
2. Before flashing, remove and put back the battery of your phone.
3. For flashing, connect your phone to USB while keeping the volume-up button pressed.

I don't know about an existing twrp for Hammer S but Rootjoy recovery should do the job as well.

Hi, can you tell me please ... did you flash just the logo.bin with SPFT or the complete ROM?
I really want to change the default white logo!
