Edited by casasjuan at 2015-10-17 00:03 \n\nToday if left to support a relatively new terminal by the manufacturer will run like wildfire bad reputation on the web, and much more if you have all promised that lollipop for our Umi Emax . I've been to forums where they do not want to hear about Umi .

It is a very good smartphone but Better for Umi put the batteries with their problem lollipop in Emax or your brand will be seriously touched on the web as happened to LG with its first terminal , because it cost sweats back tears buyers trusted in him.

Lg is a powerful brand and got fit the blow, but Umi is not, customers wolves will turn against her, and the new reviews and comments from the forums lynched if not removed at the end lollipop, it will bring more features out that the losses that will result in very bad reviews of their customers.

The lollipop upgrade is still being advertised and hasnt been removed from most of the sites selli ...

Traders are simply too lazy to update their adds. You still can see the line "Phonebook: 500 names" in a huge load of Android phone adds, although there's not a single Android phone on Earth that is limited to store only 500 entries in its phonebook. At least that lazyness shouldn't be the responsibility of UMI.

We already discussed a lot about this situation. And I didn't discussed only here, but personally with some UMI representatives. They said that, an unexpected expense occured that was requested to pay for the lollipop source code and (according to the sold amount of eMax) that's not worth the price. I told them that's not about one existing model, but the reputation of the whole company. Unfortunately they didn't show the sign of comprehension. Maybe that's a difference between the European and Chinese culture: good reputation is not a value there. I don't know.

Do they actually want to tell us that they were caught by surprise when Mediatek wanted money for its source code even if they are violating the GPL by doing that? These criminals are working like this for years now.

I guess they tried the cheap way (playing around with TCL M2 Lollipop), reached an impasse with it and are too stingy now to pay Mediatek and too lazy to sue them for violating the GPL.

Maybe they understand the importance of this update, if you tell them, that a real Android Lollipop would increase the sales of the Emax, which would result in money for these capitalists.

This time the source code is held by TCL, the manufacturer of eMax. They (just like MediaTek) probably have found a legitimate way to ask for money. For example, they just want to be paid for their own development that doesn't contain google resources. However, the whole thing can not be separated. The factory already manufactures other models.

From what I read the Emax is basicly a rebranded TCL smartphone which unfortunately does run on Kitkat only, too.

For the licensing stuff, the GPL demands that nomatter how much you change the code you have to release the source Code when you release binaries. Mediatek is violating this part for years.

You've probably read this article but we don't know the hidden details of this case. Do you know about a google's lawsuit against MediaTek?

I read on multiple sites about GPL violations of Mediatek and other companies. Unfortunately I could not find anything about a lawsuit against Mediatek or someone else. There are so many people and companies that have contributed to the Linux kernel and which rights are violated by this behavior, but it seems neither Linus Torvald nor Google or someone else of  them is interested in doing something against it. Not even the free software foundation is doing something.

Well, I guess the only things we can do now, is playing around  with the partly working Lolipop from TCL UMI released.

Then that's a question, why we should worry about this situation if not even the copyright holders care.
Hope I'll be able to get the other "beta", that has only a touch screen issue as UMI said.
