I am new to Android 8 but I did not use another security step after Android has been booted up.

In my phone I just use the password to start the device after it has been rebooted.  Apparently a security is needed unless one opts it out completely by swipe.

The wrong pin and wrong pattern cannot be cured by a factory reset so wait for an update of the software.

It appears that z2 pro has a problem with Android 8 on security.  So far the phone is able function normally if no security is implemented or in some cases just by password.  Password does not appear to work for every z2 pro although the procedure it is implemented may have to be rigidly followed.

I feel sad that UMI has not done enough to launch this phone.  The security defects generate uproar.  However without the security the phone seems to be able to work normally and the finished product does appear to match the specification.

My suggestion for new owner is to try to avoid the problematic security issue temporarily and get the phone to a working order to see if it matches their expectation.  For those who can't live with limited or no security returning the goods to the sellers may be the only option.

Buying a product with new features does come with risks which I evaluated against how much I have to pay.  UMI did disappoint me with this big security bug.  However to be fair the phone does work normally at least in my case if I avoid the known security issues for the time being.

The conclusion I have so far is my Z2 pro has been working perfectly for 1.5 days after I have migrated everything from my s2 PRO.  Its ceramic body is incredibly smooth that fingerprint does not leave any mark behind.  The pictures it shot do have better definition than those by my previous s2 Pro and a 14.7MP Cannon G10.  Hardware wise my z2 pro is as good as it was advertised and UMI did manage to manufacture a product to the premium standard that its owner can rival with other big names.  On the software front we have a big storm.

Do I have confidence in UMI in sorting out the rest of the problems?  I did have a happy ownership with my S2 pro so and a UMI Max so I have no excuse to complain as my Z2 pro is working normally.  It just hasn't got  2/3 security functions in working order for the time being.

Are you using latest or first version of software?
Did you perform factory reset in settings after getting in to the phone with recovery menu?
Are you using 1 or 2 sim card or maybe SD card?
Are you using sim card security pin?

1, First version, at least things except security work, and I do not want to force flash stuff that is not OTA, and especialy after a lot of reports that the "new" version makes the phone even worse.
2. Initially I did not set up any security having read the forums, then I saw your suggestion, tried it, phone got bricked at first reboot. Did factory reset from recovery. Wont put any more security until UMI GETS A FIX, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!
3. 2 SIM cards
4. No SIM Pin on any of them.

Thanks for the reply ,I'll keep it that way and wait for the rom update fixing the problem ,it's a pity I'll have to store the phone until the update comes out , I can't afford to use an unsecured device for work and I'm not going to carry two phones around .

Well, you could actually use it, I use Next Lock Screen (Microsoft) from the Play Store, and it works, as long as you use Nexts internal PIN or Pattern. Keeps the phone locked, but of course, you cant enable fingerprint or facedetection
