UMi Rome is one of the most successful devices from the Chinese brand UMi, thanks to its excellent design and price-performance relation. Given the success of this device, UMi has decided to release an even cheaper version of it: The UMi Rome X.

The new UMi Rome X will sport an identical design to its sibling, the UMi Rome, characterized for offering a premium appearance, despite its low price. In fact, this new device will be made of metal, with laser-cut frame, so users will not only have a good-looking phone, but a durable device.

The carefully polished stainless steel metal frame of the UMi ROME X is extremely lightweight and rugged at the same time. Exquisite design of ultra-narrow border around the phone are like works of art! High light chamfering, 16 steps CNC process technology, 7.9mm thickness and other high-end processes make the UMi ROME X possible.

The UMi ROME X features a unibody shell that extends to the back to form an arched case, which will sit in the centre of your palm with utmost comfort. Metal design Polycarbonate made battery cover, the back of the ROME X is a beauty to behold.

In terms of hardware, UMi is offering a 5.5-inch, LTPS 1280 x 720 HD display, good for a pixel density of 267 ppi. The glass covering the panel is of the 2.5D curved type, a detail which will allow users to have a good visual experience, even from difficult angles. Also, the HD technology helps to display vivid colors, and to save battery power, which is extremely important for most users.

Underneath the screen, UMi has packed a quad-core MediaTek MTK6580 processor, coupled with 1GB RAM. Considering the 720p resolution, UMi Rome X should perform well for common tasks. This device will also incorporate 8GB of built-in storage (expandable through microSD cards).
On the imaging front, UMi Rome X will incorporate a Sony IMX179 sensor, which can offer up to 13-megapixel resolution using software interpolation, and a dual LED flash at the back. The secondary camera will use a 2-megapixel sensor, whose resolution can be interpolated to 5MP.

As happens with UMi Rome, Rome X will be powered by Android Lollipop 5.1, and incorporate a 2,500mAh battery, more than enough to enjoy great autonomy, even with heavy use.

This new device will cost $49.99, being the cheapest full metal 3G smartphone on today’s market. UMi Rome X presale start is scheduled for January 11th, and it will be announced two weeks after, on January 25th.

As a funny thing, this phone is already being sold on Aliexpress with some mistakes in the specs list.

Cheap for a Rome, too expensive for a Rome X.

I cannot image how this phone will come out. Scary. If the "luxury" version (Regular UMI Rome) was sold with several features that were plain lies, I feel sorry in advanced for the ones that buy this cheap version.

The regular UMI Rome...

- Only 2-point touch screen (it was said it was 5-point)
- No AMOLED (it was said to be AMOLED)
- Worse battery of its class (it was said 9 hours for 4G usage, more than 12 for regular usage, 200 for standby). Regular use does not even reach 5 hours. Its battery its worse than any 3GB phone in the market.

So much for "Revolution".
