I think most people have problems with the camera on this phone.  It is just not much good.  fitting a camera with less resolution that worked might have been a better bet.

I think, now we can only "push" the producer, make notice on facebook, twiter  etc ... last days (X-mas time) you can see massive advertising  from this maker ..
Another customers can spend money and  buy this product with a manufacturing defect ...
And if you have problem, you can find similar reply : "Sorry, did u test another camera software?"  "Did you have last version of software? "
I did not expect it from this company ..
One man (from this forum)  sent me this info :

This is not the problem. The problem is that the optics (camera module) is really the bottom of the quality range.
This affect the image in many aspect. Shading, not uniform lens color, blurred corners/sides. Even the optical resolution can be less then the sensor resolution makes the image like it would be interpolated. (I tried the different resolutions of the Iron and the 13Mpx option is the clearest one.)

This company made the camera module: http://en.sunwingroup.com.cn/

So maybe the problem is not with the SONY chip ...and maker is not able prepare software update ..

I hope that this producer will face up to the situation.

I don't think that the picture quality is much of the camera module manufacturer responsibility. OK, they made this, but UMI could have choose better module, but they have chosen this one instead. (maybe this was the cheapest with IMX214).
So the picture quality is probably matching with the price. You can ask the manufacturer for the spec, but complain is like you would buy a car and go to the Bosch directly if the generator is faulty. They will direct you back to the car manufacturer.
I think the only problem what is really a fault is the focus problem on some device.

This is one of the existing bugs with the camera. If you switch to "Infinity" focus, it should work fine. The bug seems to be that it won't autofocus on distant objects. I've reported the bug in the suggestions thread, hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

Probably, this guy is a paid troll...

IMHO, there is a large batch of iRONs, came down from the production line,
with improperly assembled optics. Mine is not suffering from this still.
However,
main cause for the grain and tint is a crappy post-processing of the picture - badly built/ported driver.
And so far we have to be humble about that...

The purple (sometimes a different color) tint is caused by the distorted refraction of the low quality lens. Unfortunately, other UMI models are suffering as well from this issue... sporadically.
