Got my new UMI eMAX. I was super hyped but when i put my AT&T sim card in all it said was looking for signal and it would sometimes say no signal thats it!! I tried making a new APN for AT&Ts network that didn't work. I had the SIM card reset, but nothing seemed to work. So if anyone got it working with AT&T network I would love to know how. On a side note other than this HUGE flaw the phone is really nice good battery and it runs very smoothly so far

Hi Stejwm. The UMI eMAX does not support AT&Ts 4G network, but will work on the 3G & 2G network. When you put in the APN, did you make sure it was the 3G APN as listed here: http://apn-settings.com/us/att-apn-settings/

Also, could you test the sim in another phone to make sure the sim is still working fine?

I hope this helps.

Still... can you confirm that the sim is working fine in another phone please, stejwm. This will help determine if it is a phone related issue. The eMax should be connecting to the 1900MHz frequency on the AT&T network. If the sim is not working in another phone then you'll need to ask AT&T to send you a new one.

The APN settings were just in response to you mentioning you had put them in. It won't help with the reception issue, but would solve the inevitable "now I can't get any data connection" issue that would result if we do fix your current problem.

Good luck.

Edited by Clone_Tekboy at 2015-8-14 22:39 \n\nI have my emax running on AT&T. When I went down to San Diego, CA, signal was always great. However, back here at home (in Central California) I always get searching/no signal/1 bar. Once I leave home, signal comes back (although it's still rather low). Maybe the 850 band is faulty?
Anybody know apps where I can check to see what band my phone is currently connected through? or maybe a cell tower scanner?

Hi stejwm & Clone-tekboy. It would be worth checking with AT&T what frequency is used in your specific area. The emax will only pick up the 1900mhz frequency from AT&T. The 850mhz is unlikely to give you any joy, with the emax specs set to pick up the 900mhz instead.

If you find that AT&T is using mainly 900 in your area. My best suggestion would be to return the phone and choose one that specifies the 850 in it's range, such as the soon to be released Hammer S.

I hope this helps.

Yup. You have shared that before, but given the issues faced by users and the fact 850mhz is not stated on the official spec sheet, I'm wondering whether there is something causing it to be displayed incorrectly here as supported.

This would explain why stejwm and clone-tekboy aren't getting any signal.

Could it not be possible that the modem file is incorrectly set to display 850 as supported in the mtk engineering mode, but the hardware not being present to actually support it?

So it sounds like there is no fix to this other than to get a new phone?

I am having the same problem. Getting signal in Arkansas but once I go to Dallas for example, I receive no signal. Is there any fix to this or should I just return the phone back? I really like the phone but this is very lame.
