The Most Affordable Phone with In-screen Fingerprint Unlock?

UMIDIGI is going to launch a new phone, UMIDIGI X, following its hot selling triple camera phone UMIDIGI A5 Pro. Now, a new poster of UMIDIGI X leaked to show off that it will be arriving with an in-screen fingerprint reader, which is a high-end flagship feature. But according to UMIDIGI’s strategy, the company will bring this cool feature to a budget segment.

Currently, only OLED display can support in-screen fingerprint scanner. That is to say, the UMIDIGI X will sport an advanced OLED display with in-screen unlock. Comparing to common LCD displays, the OLED display has more accurate color with true black, higher brightness and infinite contrast, as well as better power efficiency, thanks to the organic light emitting technology. And we find no notch for the phone in the poster, so will it come with the panoramic full screen with pop-up selfie camera like Xiaomi Mi 9T or OnePlus 7 Pro? We will keep following the updates.

The launch date for UMIDIGI X is not yet to be declared. It is speculated that UMIDIGI would reveal its new UMIDIGI X in early August. In addition, UMIDIGI is globally recruiting 30 trial users to test its smart devices UMIDIGI Ubeats, UMIDIGI Uwatch 2, and UMIDIGI Selfie Stick (10 units each) to help improve the user experience. You can learn the latest info for UMIDIGI’s devices on its Facebook and join the giveaway on their official website.

The inscreen fingerprint scanner is not usable in any app for authentication. The fingerprint area is not showing up when asked for a fingerprint.
Please fix this a.s.a.p.

Hi allHi all
My fingerprint work good but my apps do not show it and I can not use my digital finger print to open it.... the option in setting where you can enabled the "display screen fingerprint" supposed to display the fingerprint when you flip the phone or tap the screen do not work. My applications do not show me the fingerprint scan so I can not use it to open it... any idea about that will be welcome...
Tell me if there is something to do to show the fingerprint screen to use in apps like bank apps or Bitcoin apps .. My fingerprint work good for open the phone but is not showed in any apps...
Thanks to help
Regards

Sounds and looks promising. But maybe umidigi can fix/update the camera app on the F1 and Power before releasing another phone.
Bluetooth and wifi modules need updating also...  back to your regularly programmed schedule  :-)

LCD is way better than OLED in display quality. Unfortunately, it's very sad to see OLED is killing LCD in the market and now Umidigi is also turning to this directly without much choice. I really appreciate my S3 Pro still having wonderful LCD display.

Another note, in-display finger print does NOT work well generally, only expensive high-end one will do better but still can't compare to regular one. Just wonder how good Umidigi X's would be if it is to be cheap...also, popup camera is not my desire as well. But I am interested to join the test program.

Hi bencebacsi,
Thanks for the Umidigi X 'leak'.

Just a question - can you unofficially 'leak' an approximate price? I mean, will it cost 100-150, 150-200, or 200-250 USD?

By the way, it's fantastic news that Umidigi decided to go in this direction.
Just make sure you update your phones to higher Android versions. That's the only thing missing on your way up to stars.

Whether LCD is 'way' better in display quality is up for a serious discussion, but it's quite indicative if you take a look at what kind of displays are usually installed in flagship devices.
Btw, some companies have even succeeded in implementing under-display fingerprint scanners with LCD displays, so it's going to be interesting how these work when such phones are released (quite soon actually).

In any case, any progress is good, and I'm sure Umidigi will continue making phones with LCD displays, along with OLEDs hopefully.

As for under-display fingerprint scanners, they can work quite well if optimized well. For example, take a look at the Samsung Galaxy A50 - at first, the scanner was really bad, but they optimized it through several updates, and it's very good now. And this is a midrange model.

What I find problematic with Umidigi's strategy is the lack of Android version updates.
They provide rather good software patches for existing issues with most of their models, but Android version updates are virtually non-existent.
Any forward-looking and globally-oriented company should realize that this is a major issue and a huge turn-off for many potential buyers, and should improve in this segment of their business.

Umidigi has changed a lot, their phones are rather good now, but Android version updates is what's holding them back from becoming a big player in the market.

The problem of umidigi is update firmware, they are problematic and sometimes neither solve a problem brings more problem, see the case of S3 Pro launches update and does not solve anything, puts 2 app inute camera, I'm wondering that Umidigi X problem software and optimization, can not even handle the current ones and wants to launch another smartphone, first correct the current ones and then make a great launch.

The fingerprint scanner under the screen is a dubious and unreliable feature , classic scanner better superamoled screen is also not needed , vyhovet pixels , residual image , the PWM of the screen , expensive.

Well, we'll see on 5 August what the phone is like.

It definitely sounds promising, but as always with Umidigi, the initial software may not be quite polished.
The good news is that they listen to user feedback and fix most issues subsequently.
