Do ROMs from other makers phones work on Umi crystal (4/64)

I was wondering - other makers phones that have the exact same chipset as Umi crystal - are there any ROMs from any of them that would work on the Umi Crystal, as other makers seem to be making their phones work a LOT better.
Anyone tried alternative roms?What other phones with same chipset are there?

It doesn't exactly work that way, the kernel is usually unique to each device. Umi will have used different components outside of the chipset like IC drivers, LEDs, camera sensors etc.

Android is based on Linux (GPL) and Umi is required by the GPL to release their kernel source code, but good luck with that. And as they are based only in china, they are more or less immune to lawsuits from the copyrights they are breaking.

\n\nI got the idea from a few years ago when I had a Sumvision cyclone mkv video streamer (which ran on a cut down version of Linux or unix).
The firmware for that was dodgy, so I tried the firmware from the Mvix Ulteo and from the Traxdata streamer.
They each had slight differences, but the firmware ran across each others streamers.
BUT, that didn't have the added components like IC drivers, LEDs, camera sensors etc.
Ah well, some ya win, some ya don't. So just wishful thinking I guess. But thanks for the input.

Currently is no plan to release Android 8 for Umidigi Crystal

The UMIDIGI Crystal got released with Android 7.0.0, and to this day it still has version 7.0.0 as well as the May 2017 security patch, there is not even an update to 7.1/7.1.1/7.1.2.... What a massive disappointment, launching a late 2017 smartphone with the first version of late 2016 firmware.
