Hi guys I'm creating a new kernel for the UMI Super so that in a future we can build any ROM based on any android version without problem.

But I need your support and some testers.

I'm also building the lineage os 14.1 (Android Nougat 7.1.2)

The guy is not lying! Go to XDA, you will see that they can not  make a rom because they need sorc ...

Yes he was lying because if he actually had the capability to do this then he would have known from the very start that he couldnt have done this without the source code.

My experience with Chinese Android tablets/phones is that any official firmware update is a nice surprise. Now, from the start UMi promised an update from 6 to 7, and that came thru. Sure, the quality of the update left something to be desired, but... On the contrary, I'm pretty amazed over how many firmware releases there has actually been - 13 releases if the ROM section is anything to go by - Close to one every month!
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Super has been orphaned after > 1.5 years. It's not only UMi that drops support for devices that old.
Now, it would be a nice gesture to release the source code once UMi (or any manufacturer) has lost interest in maintaining the phone, but obviously that's not gonna happen/isn't possible.

I would consider fair, that UMI left behind "old" phones, if they were stable roms... but it is not! Any of them!
Good Lord! You say that there as been 13 firmware releases?! WOW... Did any of them solved the reported issues? No? There you go, 1.5 years old, 13 rom releases and we still have in our hands a little more than bricks.... This is a synonym of incompetence.

Mats, I have to insist in this point. The price can´t be used as excuse...
UMI annouced certain product at a certain price that I agreed with. I gave them the exact amount that they asked and they gave a produt that is far far away of the one they annouced.

Yes, there are absolutely differences when it comes to phone manufacturers/brands. Xiaomi (your ex ...

Yes, I agree with you on the fact that Xiaomi has a much larger firepower than UMI. But this does not in any way justify the fact that UMI drops the software evolution on "old" phones (when it is possible of course to continue to have soft evolutions) ..... , and on the UMI Super among others it is possible to have and to do.

It seems to me this is especially true as the android versions are mainly from the official ROM basic without any specific overlay (or so little).
On the other hand, you talk about price / power comparison. I did not want to go into this comparative but let's go (although I consider that, overall, UMI Super is a good phone):
- Xiaomi 156 €, UMI 198 €
- antutu score actually tested: Xiaomi about 74000, UMI about 49000
- Photo quality better on the Xiaomi than on the UMI, certainly also related to the photo application
- Number of 4G bands supported much more important on the Xiaomi whose 700Mhz for France
- better battery life than the UMI for a lower capacity
- ... I stop there, but there are others things to say ...

UMI can not play on performance, it is related to the harware, but could easily do the necessary to improve some things by continuing to follow the software evolution of android and correcting the bugs or imperfections that remain.

To complete my purpose, when I can see that a 2015's phone is going to receive Oreo it leaves me ... how can I say ...  "pensive" (and I weigh my words) that UMI does not makes any effort to at least provide the source code to allow people of good will to make evolve the actual ROM stock ...
see here : http://www.gizchina.com/2017/10/12/2015s-jiayu-s3-may-receive-oreo-soon-courtesy-mad-team/

For me that's it that's all

My experience is that my wife's phone is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (Kate) 4G international multi band frequencies (1700 1800 2100 2600 700 800 850 900).

Officialy out march 2016 (1,5 year old). It's price was 156€ (cheaper than Umi Super and I dont want to compare others things than price ...) and phone is always supported for rom upgrades ==> last rom out 1 week and announcement this year for nougat 7.1 minimum and probably oreo in few weeks.

Multiple custom roms (LineageOs, OmniRom, Ground Zero, ViperOs, ..... and so on) + Xiaomi Dev roms

What do you thing about it ? Do you think always all chinese manufacturers dont share kernel and/or devs ? Do you think always that chinese manufacturers dont care about customers and "olds" (1.5 year i repeat !) phones upgrades ?

Twelve months support would have been OK,had that support fixed all the issues.as you can see
for yourself, that is not the case.there are still so many unresolved problems.
Unhelpful support is the same as no support at all.

12 months of support is called by you as no support !!!???
Strange thinking.
12 months is enough  ...

It would be a good support if the cellphone worked properly, like in most of the other brands.
You say that "12 months is enough to remove all errors and bugs from system" however, it seems that there´s still much work to do, as you can see for the number of complaints in this forum, and the phone is about 18 months.
It is true that the manufacturers have to move along to new products, that´s the essence of the business, even so, it is bad business to move along and leave defective produts behind.
If UMI insists in that behaviour, they won´t be in business for much time, you´ll see.
Not everyone can buy new phones every 12 months.
