Yes, there are absolutely differences when it comes to phone manufacturers/brands. Xiaomi (your ex ...

Yes, I agree with you on the fact that Xiaomi has a much larger firepower than UMI. But this does not in any way justify the fact that UMI drops the software evolution on "old" phones (when it is possible of course to continue to have soft evolutions) ..... , and on the UMI Super among others it is possible to have and to do.

It seems to me this is especially true as the android versions are mainly from the official ROM basic without any specific overlay (or so little).
On the other hand, you talk about price / power comparison. I did not want to go into this comparative but let's go (although I consider that, overall, UMI Super is a good phone):
- Xiaomi 156 €, UMI 198 €
- antutu score actually tested: Xiaomi about 74000, UMI about 49000
- Photo quality better on the Xiaomi than on the UMI, certainly also related to the photo application
- Number of 4G bands supported much more important on the Xiaomi whose 700Mhz for France
- better battery life than the UMI for a lower capacity
- ... I stop there, but there are others things to say ...

UMI can not play on performance, it is related to the harware, but could easily do the necessary to improve some things by continuing to follow the software evolution of android and correcting the bugs or imperfections that remain.

To complete my purpose, when I can see that a 2015's phone is going to receive Oreo it leaves me ... how can I say ...  "pensive" (and I weigh my words) that UMI does not makes any effort to at least provide the source code to allow people of good will to make evolve the actual ROM stock ...
see here : http://www.gizchina.com/2017/10/12/2015s-jiayu-s3-may-receive-oreo-soon-courtesy-mad-team/

For me that's it that's all

There isn't going to be a custom rom because umi doesn't release the source code (they don't have apparently?)
So there is nothing to build a custom rom...

Sorry to hijack the thread as the forum restricts me from creating a new topic and this is the closest I can find.

I bought this Umi Super last year and it updated to Android 7 out of the box but there's been no other updates and from what I have read, there will be no updates. When should I stop using the phone due to security problems if there are no updates? I've looked into the custom ROM and can't see a new Oreo stable and even if I did I'm not sure how to do it.

This is the problem with these phone OS'S. Buy a new phone and it's outdated not by hardware but the operating system. I can't afford a new phone for many years and not sure what to do with this Umi Super. I doubt I'll buy another Umi if they don't help with source codes for outdated products. Shame though. Great phone, love it. Worried about security over the coming years though.

and compare build number.
Of course this what you wrote about hijacking your system is crazy. You no need stop using your phone unless you are careful with using known apps etc. Nobody will hijack your phone because phone still contains security patch.

Hey Marcin - chriswilisau wrote that he was sorry for  ...

Hi Erich
I don't think that I was hard for this users.
Anyway I answered to him that he no need to be worried about security problems in this system. In latest available firmware is latest available security patch for Android 7 which is making system secured.
Of course he need update his phone because his build number is not latest.
And I am not admin of forum but only moderator.

Regards Marcin

I do keep looking around for one. I quite like my Umi Super. Maybe one day some bright spark at LineageOS will consider this phone worthy. All the best everyone.
