Hi,

I have ordered an Iron and looking at my order tracking info it is due to arrive on the 17th of this month.

I just wondered whether it is worth sticking with the firmware that is pre-loaded until the majority of bugs are ironed out?

From the specs of the phone it looked like a bit of a bargain but I am growing concered that it might be a bit of a dud? Is the phone actually functional out of the box as that is all I am after. Something I can use to make calls, send SMS and use WhatsApp on. Not planning on putting an ExtSD card in initially after reading some of the posts. I was thinking about putting a secondary SIM in however as I work abroad Just want a phone that works...

Uninstall Viper4android(disable) , use MTK Engineering Mode Start and Speaker Boost from Google Play .The result ia much better . In MTK Engi.... increase level of speakers up to 150

I've upgraded my Iron to v1.5 when arrived and have done a factory reset after.
I don't have much problem with it.

There are small bugs like the camera crashes when you try to use the front facing camera in landscape mode.
I had to adjust the headphone sound levels in engineering mode because the low levels were too high for me. The clicking noise is annoying but doesn't make the phone unusable.

So you will be fine with the stock ROM.

Hi, thanks for your reply, fills me with some confidence.

By clicking noise do you mean through headphones? Did you install v1.5 via an OTA update?

Hi, I have had my Iron for a week now and really enjoying it. I found the forum after I originally placed the order and was worried about all the bugs and faults I was reading about. Luckily my phone doesn't seen to have anywhere near the amount of problems have reported. I will try and start a thread in the next few days summarises my first week with the UMI Iron.

Yes, headphones.
Yes, my phone shipped with 1.4. Haven't updated to 1.6 yet. Waiting for the OTA update.

I have my Iron on 1.6, and it's really good. I don't have any of the other troubles people are having really. It's fast, screen is good and it's reliable. Battery life is solid. Only downer for the phone is the speaker quality - it's pretty crummy to be honest. You can give the volume a good boost using the included Viper4android app (turn on extra loud - extreme setting), but there's no getting around the fact that the speaker just sounds cheap and tinny.

Oh and the stock firmware is solid on 1.6. Flyme OS works well on it also but as the notification light is not working for now in Flyme on the Iron I didn't want to use it.

You don't have the problems with audio? Clicking noise, reboot on near max headphone volume (what is not normal use, it is insanely loud) and audio channel flip? Interesting.

It is all only with headphones. External speaker's volume is a little low, but it is ok for me.

I don't have any more "mayor" problem. I'm satisfied with the phone.
