I posted a previous comment about my first thoughts on the handset after the first week and after a few niggles decided I would follow up on it a week later.

My first impressions were good.  I had previously been using the G and it served me well.  I'm currently unemployed at the moment so I need to stick to the budget end of the market.  The build quality seems reasonable good, even though it is plastic backed the finish is nice though prone to fingerprints.  However with wireless charging a feature most new premium handsets are going to come with and glass being needed most handsets will suffer the same.  Also who doesn't use a case??

The screen to my eyes looks the part, yes its not 1080 or amoled but I get sick of reminding people of the price point we are at here.  I have the display size set to small to fit more on screen and it still looks crisp and clean.  Viewing angles are fine but for me the screen protector that came on the phone felt a bit grippy and my finger felt like it could not glide across the screen so that's gone.
Overall the screen to body ratio gives the phone a modern feel and family and friends when first seeing the handset thought it was a premium phone.

Software wise I was happy to have stock android only things I noticed were a few weird bookmarks in the default browser.  The amount of non deletable google apps that come preloaded are a bit annoying but that's more a android problem.than a umidigi one.

Fingerprint sensor I like, face ID I do not.  It does work and unlike all the swiping about you need to do on iPhone its just a tap of the power button and a seconds wait.  I just don't like it due to force of habit.  I found my self forgetting that the fingerprint sensor opens the phone without hitting the power so I'd touch the sensor and as the phone unlocks I was hitting the power button to start face unlock but instead I was locking the phone again.  That just me being dumb though.  I still feel its more a novelty and have it turned of for now.  The other downside is it does not seem to work in low light.

I had read that the handset would support WIFI display though that was on a third party site.  I was wanting to use that to mirror the phone screen on roku whilst using word processing app and a Bluetooth keyboard.  I don't currently have a computer and for me it was a cheap solution but alas it does not seem to have screen mirroring available.  Note my stepdads c note does.

I don't game apart from solitaire nor do I use the phone for its camera.  Its not a top notch processor and its not a $600 plus flagship camera phone.  Apps seem to always run smooth, browsing the web works well and quality of sound for calls is reasonable and loud enough.  There is expansion for SD card or duel sim, 3gb ram is a welcome upgrade from the 2 on the G.  A charge to full seems to take about a hour and 20 minutes and full charge lasts me close to 2days use.

For anyone needing a cheap handset for calls, text, browsing the web or social media then this is a solid choice.  Being a new handset there were a couple of teething issues but the last couple of wireless updates have had a positive effect.  If you want great photos and great game performance you are not going to get it with a entry level device.  The minute budget phones catch up spec wise the flagships and game developers turn it up another notch and that's good.  A couple of years back I'd be expecting a phone like this to cost me $40/50 a month on a 2 year contract and now I get it for $100 and only pay $10 a month pay as you go/contract free.

Anyways if anyone finds this at all helpful in deciding on purchasing the phone then great.

Wondering is anyone else having problems with this phone.

first problem I'm having is every time you go into an app the phone will freeze wont let you exit the app. then after 5mins frozen an app message comes up giving you 3 opinions

second problem is with the wifi, it will connect then disconnect after a hour or so

third problem is with the phone itself it will get hot when its charging or been used for longer then an hour.

I have factory reset the phone and the problem still continues

any help or advise would be greatful

Nice read, have ordered one for my wife but may give it a test drive for a week before resetting and handing it over to her.  I'm interested to see how much we're getting for the $100 - am curious if it will come with a US adapter though.

Two years ago a bought a Moto G4 Play for $90 (Black Friday deal) and the screen got cracked about a year later so ended up getting a Moto E4 for $99.99.  Now trying this $99 handset - see a trend developing!

Hello, thanks for the comment. If bought via a China shop (Ali, gearbest etc) phone ships with EU plug. Easy enough to get a alternative charger on same sites. Just make sure 5v2a.  Post time 2018-6-10 06:02

Edited by MSXDroid at 2018-6-10 23:41 \n\nMy experience with this Umidigi A1 Pro.

I have the phone now for a couple weeks.
In hands, it feels nice, it feels like you have a high end phone, the sides are from metal and back looks like metal, but isn't (I think).
The screen protector is already placed on the screen and for me, there was a scratch a couple days later (ordered a new glass protection).
I read here about the phone is getting really hot, but my opinion, it isn't that.
I have installed Pokemon Go on it (that games really drives a phone to its max and uses a lot of battery and cpu/gpu power).
Just to test how the phone handle it.
well, I can say after playing for a week now, the phone is getting warm, but not hot, when it is getting warm, I think the cpu/gpu is scaling down the speed, because you will get frame drops of the game, but still playable and that on a budget phone.

For now, I do not have any issues with the phone, the only thing is that sim 1 signal is not that strong, or it an issue of the provider, will test later with another sim card.

You can use 2 sim cards at the same time, but I prefer a sd card for storage.
If you will make a new phone, just make a phone where you can use two sim cards at the sim time and a slot for the sd card for storage, because now you have to choose.

I got a lot updates when I have the phone, that is good news and hopefully, the updates keeps coming.
I do not use face ID on the phone, I prefer touch id and that is placed on the perfect spot. Using a finger to unlock the phone is really fast, even when the screen is turned off (sleep mode), put your finger on the touch id and it will unlock the phone. Perfect.

Didn't make a lot of phone calls, playing audio is good enough. Playing music from a app thru the speaker, is really loud, no issues and perfect.

Stock android, I love it, you can use your own launcher or name it.

Well the price of this phone is perfect and iot looks you have a mid range phone (150 until 250 dollars).

Before this one, I had a Umidigi C Note 2, but this phone (Umidigi A1 Pro) is much better.
Now, lets look at the Umidigi Z2 Pro, hope it will make some dreams come true.

Kind regards

Well, no TWRP yet, while UMIDIGI release on this forum TWRP for almost every phone, so no root, so no deep test or comparison with my other phone.
I have a problem to with a Samsung EVO+ 64GB sd card that when is "adopted" as internal memory (you NEED it, you hav just like 7GB for app and stuff...) it shows like "128 with 64GB free" and when I try to migrate apps it migrate  just 30mb...so I have just a few apps.Googling is ok, youtube seems ok too, screen is VERY CHEAP and the splashcreen show you Immmediately that there is no contrast, no black, just gray.Didn't try the camera, just read that someone found it good someone normal, while is common that the front camera is no good, so sorry since I love selfie and people should understand that a photographer will use a reflex, while with the phone you make selfie for fun with friend when you didn't planned to...hope I explained my opinion.BUT for €80 is good, I'm just sorry  that is not so much considered on XDA or custom or bugfixer forums, It's not that  new, and still no TWRP, lineage or so.Pro is that got already 3 OTA update, hope that UMIDIGI won't forget. Oreo is nice, but I can't find something very different with my LG G5 nougat, really hope it will get P and won't be abanoned. And, well, THERE ARE BEZEL, they are very visible, forget "infinity display" Ulefone S8 Pro has  thinner latheral display bezel, a better display, REMOVABLE BATTERY double 4G sim AND SD slot and it's €68 had some OTAs and you can easily root it by patching the boot.img with magisk...well, I'm sure I will be satisfied once I got root and working adoptable storage (if you used it please post the SD brand, size, etc, thank you!!!)

I Have a SanDisk Extreme 32Gb (really fast) in the A1 Pro. So far no issues and can install programs and other files on it. A1 Pro gives 32gb storage.  Post time 2018-6-14 15:17

Hello, thanks for the comment.  Where did you buy the memory card from?  I only ask as it has been known that some of the cards sold on China sites like Ali have been fakes or it may be a 128 card with bad sectors resold as a 64 etc.  Does it do the same in any other device?
Best to buy stuff like that from amazon and just send back for a replacement if faulty.
I'm planning a card myself, prob just a 32gb scandisk as only £10.  Will post back if I find any issues.

Hello, lots of problems with this phone, sometimes when you unlocked the phone, the brigthness goes up to the maximum and there is no way to low it back, you have to lock the phone and then unlock again, then the britghness goes back to normal.

Another really anoying thing, is that THERE IS NO WAY TO ADD OR EDIT THE APN SETTINGS. I don't know if it is the phone of the Android ROM 8.1, but it seems that lot's of device on the market with OREO 8.1 are unable to edit the APN settings. This is the case with the Umidigi A1 PRO. This phone is fully compatible with my carrier, but I can only use the 3G because I cannot edit the APN settings, very annoying.

Comments

No issues with the APN, I can make a new one. I also had issues to get 4G, but is not the fault of the A1 Pro, but from provider, go to Settings -> Mobile network -> Network operator and choose 4G   Post time 2018-6-14 15:20
Settings, network & internet, mobile network, access point names. If you want you can add a new one. My network auto filled when my sim went in. Not really a phone issue by sounds of it.  Post time 2018-6-13 05:53

Hello, lots of problems with this phone, sometimes when you unlocked the phone, the brigthness goes  ...

We discussed this topic in different thread.
Please activate sim card and then edit or add new APN.
Also please check does A1 Pro is compatible with your network bands.
Any of your issues are not existing on A1 pro. This phone is tested in different countries and any of us cannot confirm your issues.
Also please stop sharing same posts everywhere because this is pure spam now.

Don't forget, some sim cards are locked and you cannot choose or make a new APN. In some phone it will not work and when you choose another provider, you can change the settings. I can change it.  Post time 2018-6-14 15:22
