I purchased a UMI Z from aliexpress and have been using it in India since January.
I am using a Reliance Jio Sim Card which works on BAND-3, BAND-5 and BAND-40. The "VOLTE" Symbol on the top with the network bars disappeared after the V3.02_20170317 (Android 6.0) firmware for UMIDIGI Z update.
Since my sim card uses only the VOLTE technology for high quality voice calls this meant I was unable to make any phone calls from my UMI Z. I did recieve phone calls but as soon as I answered them I got an error message saying "no network available" and the call dropped/disconnected. After a lot of research I figured out that this problem had something to do with the ROM update.
After a while I got another update which was the V3.02_20170411 (Android 6.0) firmware for UMIDIGI Z but even this did not solve the problem. Infact the new updates promised GPS optimisation but they only made it worse.
After waiting for over a month for the "VOLTE" sign to appear automatically I decided to downgrade to the version V3.02_20170225 (Android 6.0) firmware for UMIDIGI Z which finally solved my probelm. I followed the instructions here to manually flash that rom and as soon as the phone restarted I had the "VOLTE" symbol and was able to make and recieve phone calls with no problem.
I would really want you people to look into this. The Android 7.0 update for UMI Z will be here anytime and I don't know how would that work for me. Would I have the same problem in Nougat too?
PS : I had checked all the settings when I lost the VOLTE symbol. Enabled 4G LTE as the voice call preference and made sure all the possible settings were right. It was the ROM PROBLEM and nothing else.
