maybe in near future spares are available. return the phone to gearbest is no option, because of the customs in Germany. so much for 3 day DOA warranty

That's a bad situation.
If the cracks are not seen through the camera then maybe a protector could help in the meantime. I have it fixed in mine and clarity is good. Just note that it doesn't stick on and stays there like glass protectors. Takes a bit of time for it to really stay in place.

If exchange is not an option, be my last resort (not totally recommended) is to pull out the shards and place the protector over it.. The camera is not damaged, just the original "cover".The protector is smaller than the actual cover so can be seated right inside.

Please contact directly to Gearbest.com and request for DOA (death on arrival).
If you keep some customs payment provement for that phone and that you sending for replacement back to seller you shouldn't pay customs charges again as you already paid.
