UMI Iron v1.8 update is available via Rootjoy (recommended for normal users) or the SP FlashTool version is also available from now in the ROM section.

Changelog:
  • When change the wallpaper, system reminds "Unfortunately, Launcher3 has stopped", and change failed --- problem solved
  • Smart wakeup, the letter "C" will always show on notification bar --- problem solved
  • When change music or video, it has noise "click" --- problem NOT solved yet but in progress (EDIT: 12.01.2015)
  • Camera struck when switch front and rear one, system reminds "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped" --- problem solved

So...seems like you need to do a fullwipe.

Thanks no... not for this stupid kind of update.

I've already asked UMI to improve Rootjoy's ability about this. Until that happens, as rhen said, you can update with TWRP and choosing just wipe the dalvik-cache only (that doesn't make sense if you format the cache partition or not), or if you use SPFT, just simply don't flash the data partition but flash the TWRP recovery (or leave that partition unchecked as well, if TWRP is already on your phone), then you can wipe only the dalvik from recovery.
Anyway, I've written a tutorial about this topic: http://community.umidigi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1596&page=1#pid10736

The base of the clicking/popping sound is probably an issue of the hardware design. So that can be reduced by software tweaks, but can't be perfectly eliminated. Just to be clear, I say that, not UMI.

This is the same version as the 11. 27'th version?
If so, the clicking noise doesn't solved. I've written down my experience on the previous thread: http://community.umidigi.com/for ... 0518&fromuid=32
Still there are some problem, but I think it is worth the update from 1.5.

Yes, this is the same version. The new thing is the SPFT format. I read your review earlier but now I just forwarded the info given by UMI. Maybe flashing with SPFT (with Firmware Upgrade option) could lead to better results.

Generally all is moving smoother than before.  Good job.

Used SP Flashtool and did a Firmware upgrade with 1.8, clicking/popping sound is still there.. didn't change in the slightest.

UMI iron is quite the headache

Clicking sound is less annoying with this update, but it's still a (less annoying) pain in the **s.

BTW, I jumped directly from 1.6 to 1.8, so it's the first time I try the gestures... I find them slow, the animation drawing the line is quite unnecesary IMHO, and they don't work if you have any security active. Even if Smart Lock is disabling the security.
