I appreciate that there has been some mention of issues when listening to music through the headphone.

Haven't seen anyone with my particular issue so thought I'd post and see if anyone knew what was causing the problem.

The sound seems fine on the external speaker, but when listening to music on my headphones there is a slight distortion and fuzzy crackle throughout which makes listening to music this was almost unbearable.

I have disabled the vipers android FX and turned off enhancements in the sound settings menu but there is still a faint distortion regardless of how low I put the volume.

I'm running v1.6

Does anyone else get distortion when listening to music via headphones and if so, do you know how to get rid of it?

I really hope this isn't a hardware issue as I really like the phone, but this could be a deal breaker for me

Thanks.

I don't know, if you mean this, but while listening to the music through earphones or watching movies I can hear some noises, they are repetitive. Also I hear the noise of cell phone connection (like if the phone is about to ring and if it is near a speaker, the speaker makes noises, but the noise is in earphones connected to the phone itself).

The noise of cellphone connection is exist on my phone too. But only when the phone switch from different networks (E->3G->E no 4G here) and it doesn't happen with all switch, only in certain conditions. I commute every day to work and I can show you the area where this happens. It is the only area where this happens and my older phones also had hard time distinguish what network should use. It is really bad place regard this aspect. If I would live there, I would manually switch my phone to 2G.

Anyway, this is bad design and can't be fixed.

Yea, I can confirm, that cellphone connection sounds exist while changing 4g-3g-2g-gprs or just before an incoming call. But there are also some noises, like if I can hear distortion from processor working. Noticed it the most while watching a movie through MX player and paused it. There was nothing but a white noise (by the way low white noise is always in headphones) and low crackle repetative noises. The audio system of the phone sucks, especially comparing to my previous android phones.

New finding.
I switched the phone to use only 2G networks for a day (to conserve battery). The "noise of cellphone connection" was almost constant.
I had to switch back to 3G to able to listen to music without this noise.

Have you tried with 32ohm or higher impedance earphones/headphones? For example the UMI Voix is a 16ohm one. I've got a pair of it and I measured 16ohm, although its specs say 32ohm.

I use a 24 ohm Vsonic GR02 Bass Edition now.

The "interference sound" can be heard on 2G only. 3G is fine.
Can I check what band the phone i currently using?
I would like to check if this issue is related to a specific frequency range or not.

I'm afraid you can check the active band frequency with an external instrument only. According to my experience, higher ohm headphones are less affected by such interference.

I use a Vsonic AN16 (this has really good wires and has 45 ohm impedance) now and have no "interference noise". I feel like the overall noise level went down.
Now it sounds great. (except the popping noise)

So people who have problem with noise, go and buy some proper headphone/IEM.
