My plus recently died and no longer functioned, which I believe to have occured due to a freak overheating incident; this lead me to buy a new one off amazon and contact amazon about warranty etc. Within a day of receiving my new Plus phone, it too died -- I have come to the conclusion that it must be random power surges, as light bulbs have also been going in the household too. Will I get my money back for the 2 Umi Plus phones -- or any advice on what I should do to resolve the situation?

I think that you should contact to house insurance company or power supplier for cover cost of repairing or replacing devices as by your own opinion this is "power surges" fault so why phone seller or umi should take responsibility of product.
