Edited by Desmondo at 2015-9-10 01:07 \n\n Edited by Desmondo at 2015-9-10 00:53 \n\nI have the same issue with mine, sims work fine but sd card when inserted prevents boot. Tried all roms and a few known good sd cards. None will start reporting the same error as everyone else while on, that sd card is broken.
It seems me like the phone thinks the extSD card is the internal card and tries to boot from this, that's just a hunch. I read over at gizchina a reviewer stated that a well known distributor had to return the first full batch for this problem. Obviously this seems to be more than a minor problem, if it is a minor problem umi should update their site with instructions on how to fix or should be advising buyers with the problem to return the phone for replacement/repair with free carriage.

Silence is no good for breeding confidence in the brand.

Well, that would be of great help if Umi took direct responsability, as many units are affected with this problem.

In my case I did 2 hit combo: there's no fix without returning the phone and my reseller (Antelife) is playing dumb in order to get past the replacement deadline (15 days).

Totally helpless.

I bought mine from an authorized seller on aliexpress. Fortunately he has not been paid yet so I have raised the issue and pointed out what I have found. I am waiting for reply. I personally think its software I read some umi zero had similar problems and it was firmware related. But umi by now must realise there is a problem and should be putting their hands up to accept responsibility and not keep up in the dark. After all we are loyal customers and fans and appreciate what they are trying to do with their smart phones. So umi if you are reading please come clean and advise us if their is a manufacturing fault. Faults happen but the sign of a good company is one thats responsible and does not leave their fans out of pocket or in the dark.

What do you mean the seller hasn't been paid yet?

The reason why I stopped buying from AliExpress was because, unlike DHGate, they pay the seller immediately who's supposed to then ship your goods.

When you request a refund, it's the seller who has to click the box to authorise you getting one.

Because they already have your money.

Unscrupulous sellers give buyers fake shipping numbers as a stalling tactic - I suspect they use the money for cashflow purposes.

Hi Blandroid I have had no such problem, been using them for years. It's held in an escrow account until you are satisfied with the goods. You simply raise a dispute and if this is not satisfactory you need to raise a claim that's buyer protection. I have heard from UMI today and they advise me to reflash the phone using flash tool as they think it might be driver related. Incidentally in root joy should it shows the phone storage 11.6gb & sd card as 11.6gb when no sd card is mounted, could this be the root of the problem?

Does anyone with a working a phone have this?

Hello,

I have the phone with a working SD card and it's the same in Rootjoy: internal storage and sd storage have same values but it's wrong. For me there is no problem anyway

Hi Desmondo,

Why does the seller have to authorise the refund if the money is held in escrow?  I don't understand that.

In any event, I hope that flashing with SP Flash Tool works for you and that it's a f/w issue rather than hardware although I do have my doubts because surely everyone running the same f/w would have the same problem?

I was helping someone on XDA flash his Umi Iron recently so by all means visit the Umi Iron thread there and follow the discussion if you need help

Well, in my case I'll have to stick with the non working SD slot.

My reseller, Antelife has played the dumb asking stupid questions with the excuse that they were troubleshooting the problem, even when I directed them to this thread where the problem was already clear. They even asked me twice for a video they never got to watch, just for the sake of delaying things.

This morning they told me that I've not sent the phone for replacement within 7 days of receipt, so I'm not eligible for a replacement. They offered repairing, but after this scam I don't trust them anymore, I fear I won't be seeing the phone again in months or at all.

So thumbs down to Umi for releasing a flawed batch of phones, and total thumbs down to Antelife for treating their customers like **it, speaking properly.

I'll never buy an Umi again, and certainly will never buy anything else from Antelife.

At least Umi has one possibility to mend things with their customers: to do a factory recall of all flawed units and repair them. If it's a widespead problem with their products, and it is, they and not the reseller should take responsability. But I don't think that's going to happen either.

I'm really sorry to hear what's happened to you Drakhart.

Unfortunately, we've all had bad experiences and we learn from them by only using sellers who offer PayPal for example but I've never heard anything quite as bad as this in all my years of buying China devices.

Sellers have always insisted that you pay the shipping cost to return faulty goods but in my case, they've been mended and returned in full working order.

I've never heard of Antelife and certainly wouldn't ever buy anything from them based on what's happened to you. I use Coolicool, TinyDeal and GeekBuying purely because of PayPal then no matter what happens, I know I can get my money back.  Failing that, if you pay by credit card, you can get the credit card company onto them if anything goes wrong after sale.
