The WLAN range was already very bad for the UMI Super and UMIDIGI Z Pro.
Outside the apartment I have 1,02 Mbps download with the Z Pro.
With my Xiaomi Pocophone F1 I have 19,13 Mbps download.
I use a multi card each.
This means that both devices have the same provider and the same number.
Thus, the range should be identical.

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has Qualcomm Snapdragen 845 known to be superior to Z2 pro's MediaTek P60 in speed and gps.  I am not surprised that its wifi miles ahead of z2 pro.

My view is the z2 pro wifi is actually worse than the cheap phones using the lower end MediaTek CPUs.

It has nothing to do with pricing nor branding. Mediatek's WiFi driver implementation has always been less performing on all my Mediatek phones. Even my 10 year old Samsung performs better. Unless Mediatek recognizes this weakness and rewrites their driver, future devices will still be affected.

I do not think the range depends on the processor.
Even my old Galaxy S4 (with LineageOS 14.1) has a greater range than my UMIDIGI.
I think the metal body limits the range very much.

Ultimately, I do not care about the cause.
A short-range device is simply a misconstruction for me.

Ever since I implemented the double-mesh wifi in the house I now have Z2 pro using 5Ghz band "nearly" all the time at 433Mbps.  I lost the 5Ghz connection if I leave the house and return back later, by which time the z2 pro for some reason could only connect to the 2.4Ghz at 72Mbps.

However if I switch off the router and the z2 pro for a short while and restart everything will be back to 5Ghz.

I have the ceramic version so wifi signal should be better than the the models with metal back.

To get a good wifi reception the phone needs to have a good receiver plus a good antenna and the design should be based on fair signal condition.  Since my z2 pro wifi works in nearly ideal condition  so may be UMI has designed its wifi reception in laboratory condition where the the strongest signal is available.  The phone goes to pieces when being used in real life condition when the signal strength is far from ideal.

The wireless charging loops and the added NFC wiring at the back could be the culprit affecting the reception as the older s2 pro without them gives a far more stable wifi.

I don't want opening a new thread about this feature, but i have a question for UMI (and for other customers maybe)

2 android phones ( Z2 PRO and another "chinese" device, a LEAGOO) in my house connected to the same wifi (chosen 2.4 Ghz)

Same Android version, 8.1.0.  Same provider (VODAFONE).

Ok, let's go to the point: When i enter wifi settings, on both devices i find out the option "Enable Wi-Fi Calls". To shorten the story, you will not believe at, but...    On LEAGOO it is possible to enable option. Guess about Z2 Pro ?  Right...  the answer is NOT..  the option remain greyed out and not possible to achieve.

Now i'm asking: Is this related to the issue that someone has complained, about VoLTE lack (even on supported networks)  ?

I have a new Z2 Pro and I cannot connect to the 5GHz band, only the 2.4 GHz band.
I also find that my phone is not sending its Name to the Router, so it is only registering with its MAC Address.

I checked that the phone does have a name, but it is not being sent to the router.

This phone... It simply will not connect to my 5GHz network. It sees the network it knows the network info (Google was a champ and transferred the settings on over for me) but it will not connect to it... And the Bluetooth disconnects from my car after about 40 minutes, and drops info causing skips in what I'm listening to. My Z2 didn't have these problems, just the Z2 Pro (carbon fiber).
And how do I get my user profile in these forums to allow me to create new threads? I keep getting told I don't have permission.

I got my z2 pro to connect to my home's 5GHz network by deleting the network settings that automatically transferred from my other phone, then re-entering the network info. It's not the strongest connection, but. It does connect now.
