I have also facing the same issue, but SP tools still work for flashing.
Just connect your phone  with power off condition after you click the download button. The phone will recognize automatically... the begin flashing until finish.

The phone needs to be connected while off for flashing and it is then when it isnt recognised by my computer. Seems like a hardware problem really. I am going to sell it back and buy a different phone cos this OS does suck and I am stuck with it.

I'm sorry but according to my current knowledge, the S2 Pro or any other UMI OS based models will not receive further updates since the UMI OS developer team doesn't work for UMIDIGI anymore.
On the other hand, I've been using an S2 Pro as my daily driver with about 160 user apps installed for quite a long time already, but my only issue is that, skype notifications don't appear, except the notification light. I'm using the latest basic ROM, of course.

Hi,
For rooting, beside some contents of the system partition, you have to modify the boot partition as well. Due to the Efuse partition protection, that is impossible to be done on UMI OS phones. For the basic edition ROMs I modified only the system partition but that's not enough for rooting.

Probably a USB connection error. Try to use another USB cable and/or Computer for flashing. You can flash any version on any version with the flash tool, you don't need to follow a specific order of versions. What you only need is to flash in firmware upgrade mode if it's the first time you're flashing a basic edition ROM.

Then you probably did it by luck. That doesn't make sense which version you have installed on your phone before flashing another one.
