Hi,
For rooting, beside some contents of the system partition, you have to modify the boot partition as well. Due to the Efuse partition protection, that is impossible to be done on UMI OS phones. For the basic edition ROMs I modified only the system partition but that's not enough for rooting.

Probably a USB connection error. Try to use another USB cable and/or Computer for flashing. You can flash any version on any version with the flash tool, you don't need to follow a specific order of versions. What you only need is to flash in firmware upgrade mode if it's the first time you're flashing a basic edition ROM.

Then you probably did it by luck. That doesn't make sense which version you have installed on your phone before flashing another one.

So glad to hear this.I hope you fired them for making such a mess of  the Umi OS that was just another stupid idea.

All users want is a clean pure android device that works as it should.

That's a bummer, why can't they make a rom where ALL notifications work and that stupid bootloader is removed?
Then we could do some modifications for ourselves and would this phone get a little useable for us(would have a little less regret buying it)

This is non-sense... The phone is brand new and full of bugs... at least can your team adapt it for lineageOS and let the community do the rest??

Be kind with your customers and they will buy again. At this point I'll not buy from Umidigi again and will make sure that all friends/collegues/family that ask me what I recommand knows to do not touch an umidigi device...

Yes, basically they got fired (also the marketing manager at UMIDIGI, who made the contraction with them) but the downside of this case is that, we can't request further updates from them, the 360OS team. Personally I was fighting against the UMI OS since the first time I tested it. Beside the mass of bloatware, especially the Efuse protection what they applied is unacceptable, since that makes it impossible to anyone other than them be able to rewrite the software.
All new UMIDIGI models started from the S2 Lite are going to be released with stock Android + LineageOS as an alternative for some selected devices.
On the other hand, I must say that, the S2 Pro with the latest basic ROM is a useful device, I really use one as my daily driver. I couldn't use it with a full, official ROM, that's true.

I'm sorry but that's physically not possible, it's not about our intention. Only the 360OS team could do anything but they are not our partners anymore. You can install the basic ROM to get an overall useful device.
