The packing screen protector was already off, reboot did not help sadly

It still can be caused by static electricity but that's impossible to tell remotely. You may try to power off your phone and put it into the fridge (cool and high humidity environment) for a few hours, then let it warm up and power on it again. A such environment might discharge the static electricity in the touch panel.
In specific cases your touch panel can be simply defective. If nothing helps, I suggest you to contact your seller to make your phone repaired or replaced.

In my case if i restart the phone the problem reduces (almost disapear) for a couple of hours. Then after a period of time i have the same issue again. Can it be a grounding problem?

I repeat: It's NOT a Software(Android 6.0 etc.) problem. It's faulty Hardware(The parts your phone is made off, like processor, sensors, camera etc.). In your case it's the Digitizer(Capacitive Touchscreen = Hardware) that is damaged.
You can waste as much time as you want in this forum, it will not repair your Digitizer. Contact your Vendor and get a replacement.

Hello,
I had this same issue...

This problem seems to be solved by downloading (today) last OTA update.
Well done UMI !

Edited by DutchMuffin at 2017-2-18 00:24 \n\nThe update fixed my issue as well. I'm curious as to what they adjusted to fix it.
EDIT: Spoke too soon, still happens
