Hello,
I tried a bit around with the GPS after seeing your video.

I can confirm that the UMI Super has less good GPS reception than the UMI Touch (which already had his problem with that.
BUT, and i see it in your video, the reception quality goes terribly down when UMI Super lies on something.  As soon as you put it on the ground, table or something like that the signal quality drops massively.

I guess the reception of the signal comes from behind the device, and is disrupted when the device lies on something.  In your video, i see you use a cover on the Super, maybe this has a influance too.

I also noticed that the GPS signal is poor.
All my other devices works better than UMI in the same place.

My gps is fine, however i have a strong feeling that the aluminium case is a strong factor to hampering the gps signal.

The antennas problems with Umi is commom to all versions, included GPS, 4G and WI FI. The problem is very simple to solve. The problem is that the WI fi , 4G and GPL antennas that are on the internal mother board plastic cover inside Umi, are not enought pulled up to touch on the other part of the Umi specific hardware in motherboard once you close this plastic cover. Solution is open it and pull up a little bit each of this pieces of metal atachhed to the motherboard antennas plastic cover.

May be Umi factory employees are not real Umi employees, they are sub contracted factorys to lower the production prices at Umi levels. And you know this guys maybe give bonus if an employee surpass a certain productivity, and they dont bother to loose time pulling up a little bit more each antenns because it will take more time... ;0(

You need to remove 1st cover, then this cover and you will see pieces of metal that are not enought up to touch the hardware connections of wi fi, 4g and Gps in the mother board, so once you close this cover you will see this pieces of metal dont touch it or stay only very close to it.

With an precision knife like X-act or other you need to pull this pieces of metal a little up on a way that they touch the hardware once you close it.

After this my GPs started worked more faster and accuratly then ever and 4G internet speed and ping goes to the roof . Amazing !

I have here some you tube videos explain how to open this cellphones and solving the antenna problem as well in a Umi model . In the side of the hardware motherboard it is written Gps . . .

https://youtu.be/TugAXj34JNE

And this one to see how to "Teardown" them ;

Why should u tear down ur own phone and lose waranty instead your reseller must fix it if its hardware bug. I am still waiting if its a firmware thing that can be fixed with a update otherwise the phone is going back to the seller.

Hello Greetings!

I live in north america and I did this and my GPS signal is fixed even when I am driving fast enough.

Steps:

NOTE: If your phone has "SU" installed just copy the "gps.conf" from the the gps.zip (attached) in "/system/etc" with a file manager...

If not, follow the next steps...

0. Install all the USB drivers (on your Windows System).
1. Install the "adb" command from the Android SDK (on your Windows System).
2. Unizip the gps.zip (attached) (I recommend to put it in "C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>")
3. Put your phone in debug mode.
4. Run in a terminal:
    cd C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
    C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools> adb shell
5. Then (in the shell of the phone run the 'mount' command)...
root@SUPER:/ # mount -o rw,remount /system
6. Then (in the shell of the phone run the 'exit' command)...
root@SUPER:/ # exit
7. Then (in the shell of the windows system run the 'mount' command)...
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools> adb push gps.conf /system/etc/gps.conf
8. Clear system cache:
System Settings -> Internal storage -> Cached data (touch & respond to "Clear cached data?" OK)
9. Reboot

Now your GPS will be a lot better... :good:

For other regions just change this:
 1. NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
 2. NTP_SERVER=0.north-america.pool.ntp.org
 3. NTP_SERVER=1.north-america.pool.ntp.org
 4. NTP_SERVER=2.north-america.pool.ntp.org
 5. NTP_SERVER=3.north-america.pool.ntp.org
Copy the Code

For your own region settings, you can get them from here:

Best regards
galpec

Yes UMI SUPER have root access, the thing is that UMI SUPER doesn't have pre installed the "SU" program so other APK's can acquire root from the UI of your phone...

So you can follow the esteps I posted
