Hi everyone,
also on my UMI Plus the GPS is very bad.
I've the latest firmware and I've tried almost every solution explained in the prevoius posts.

I am also an "isolated" owner?

On the subject, we are going to become experts at this in the end.

Here is some more info about GPS antenna design, placement, orientation etc.

http://www.antenna-theory.com/design/gps.php

Note how far from every other antenna is the GPS antenna placed, and in a different orientation too.

And a more theoretical one, addressing some issues mobile phone manufacturers face as the following part indicates.

"Many handset makers are not GPS or even RF experts, and rely on catalog components to provide their GPS and antenna hardware. Often unsuitable antennas are chosen, or the antennas are integrated in such a way that the original operation mode does not work."

Hope this helps.

Maybe I have found a solution. I’ve tested it with two car navigations and it seems to work.

I used an APP called GPS Status & Toolbox to test the GPS. After a little play around, I found a setting that worked for me. This APP can write NMEA sentences to the system log and this seems to work.

Link to the APP:https://play.google.com/store/ap ... eclipsim.gpsstatus2

Do these Settings in the app:

Settings -> GPS & Sensors -> Sensor filtering = medium (The default setting is weak and this can be the error)
Settings -> GPS & Sensors -> NMEA logging = check

Do the Compass calibration
Do the pitch and roll calibration

Do this OUTSIDE!!
- Deactivate WI-Fi and only use mobile data
- Wait for the first-GPS fix with the APP
- Reset and re-download the a-GPS Data with the APP

Manage A-GPS state -> RESET the A-GPS Data

The Test with Maps:
Make sure that Google Maps has all permissions
To be on the safe side I have disabled the Wi-fi Module

Navigate with Maps

By the way. The APP has a Background activity, when GPS is activated. You can deactivate this:

Settings -> Background behavior -> GPS status in notification bar = never

Thanks a lot for the trick. I'm going to test it right now.  Post time 2016-11-14 03:44

And the a-gps data have you also reset and re-downloaded with the APP? I think the APP writes the data in the system log when you download the a-gps data. Was your Wi-Fi Module activated?

I have done all the setting at home, connected to Wi-Fi yesterday and this morning I tried again the GPS on the way to work, using data connection.
Do you think it could be useful to reload the A-GPS data before starting any navigation app?

Download the a-GPS Data outdoor with the GPS Status & Toolbox APP. (activated mobile data and deactivated Wi-Fi)

Wait for the first fix outdoor. Then reset the a-gps data and download it again.

Only try it outdoor. Indoor with Wi-Fi, the signal is very bad. With me is outdoor the signal very good and no jumpings

I think something is wrong with the factory gps settings. You need accurate data and this works only outside.
