I don´t think underclocking will help that much. Mostly if you underclock the power consumption will be lover but the CPU would have to stay on for a longer time to complete its tasks before going back sleep. It might improve thermals, but not overall battery consumption and also the phone would feel slower.
To improve the battery life the system has to provide - better scheduling and utlization of the available cores (perhaps in the future patches from MediaTek), better task and deep sleep scheduling (should be available in Android 7), fixing battery drain caused by system bugs - WiFi, several Android System components (fixed either by UMI devs or MediaTek). Other than that there is not much more you can do about it.
From my experience the phone can easily last 2-3 days of light use - calls, texts, music, occasionally checking web, mail, FB - if I turn the WiFi on only when I need it and none of the battery drain bugs occurs. |
