Hi,

I am new to the UMI brand and only discovered them about 4 days ago, and now I am the proud owner of a UMI Plus. I do have a few questions though regarding the USB C standard which I am unfamiliar with.

To start with, it is important to note that none of my computer equipment at home is USB 3. It is all USB 2 on the type A connector.

I see that the UMI PLUS comes with a power adaptor and USB C lead, so here are my questions as follows:-

1. Can I use the USB C lead supplied with the phone to plug into my computer that only has the type A USB USB2.0?
2. If it is OK to do this, will I have full functionality i.e. be able to charge the phone and transfer data to and from the computer's type A USB 2 port?
3. I have lots of power adaptors at home that are of the old standard which are used for charging phones with the micro usb connector fitted. Is it OK to use my USB C lead supplied with the UMI Plus on these adaptors to charge my phone?

Thanks in advance
Mike

As a recent owner myself, here are my answers:

1] Yes. And to answer 2], yes to both! You can browse your phone upon plugging (if it is not detected, see http://community.umidigi.com/thread-4916-1-1.html which is what i did on windows 10 to access my phone through MTP). As to charging, it charges horrendously slow; at best it can maintain the same battery level as when you plugged it in. You can however turn the phone off then plug it in, which makes it charge faster (although not as fast as the charger it came with). Which brings us to 3], yes you can as long as the power rating is lower or equal to the charger it came with. What you will end up with is a slow charge, which will take much more time than using the charger it came with.

As for usb leads, you can buy one made for Umi Plus (the metal bit is longer on those than on regular ones you can buy), or just get a decent cable and carefully trim about 1mm off the plastic of the end that goes into your phone.

Hi faust,

thank you for your reply to my questions including the useful tip about the UMI USB C connector having more metal exposed.

I would just like to clarify your answer about the use of old power adaptors.
1. If I have an old power adaptor that has a higher current capacity than the UMI adaptor supplied, will it just limit to the correct current for charging which would be governed by what the phone needs and also by the circuitry which will be in the UMI lead at the USB C end?
2. If I use an adaptor that has less current capacity than the UMI adaptor, the phone or UMI cable will have no way of knowing this, and so would the phone therefore try and draw too much current from the adaptor causing it to overheat?

Thanks in advance

Hi
If you have stronger charger you always can damage battery. Phone is only compatible with pump express charges so nobody know what could happen.
You can always use weak charger and probably as you know charger can only supply current which is on the label and this will not cause overheating or any different issues.
Pump express is working on 5/7/9V 1.65A or 12V 1.25A only. As phone is communicating to genuine charger can judge correct voltage and current
