What kind of screen protector (sp) are you using?
The sp used for shipping needs to be removed because it's way too thick and soft.
Tempered glass is also not recommended in combination with this device.
I bought a thin matte sp for a client, since then the responsiveness has improved.
This a TCL device at heart, so don't expect any support or solutions in the future.
Best thing you can do is switching to the CM12.1 ROM and save up money for a better device that's less flawed.
In general: Don't waste money on products from UMI, Elephone, Ulefone. They simply don't have the skilled employees it takes for creating good devices and bug free operating systems.

I've bought and recieved yesterday an official UMI tempered glass screen protector. The screen became really unresponsive after applying it. I was used to a Samsung S3 Neo with a think screen protector as well, but I didn't notice any kind of difference after appling it - and it's quality was worst than UMI's. So, I guess UMI should take responsibility and compensate the people who have paid for an unusable thing, or come with a fix for it, a patch or something that increases screen sensitivity.

Xiaomi and Oppo are quite solid, Meizu mostly... still, I would never pre-order a phone from them. Waiting for real reviews and opinions of users always pays off.
Aside from the build quality itself, the supported LTE bands for your country might be the next important factor, so be sure to look up the details.
Regarding CM12: For now you have to go the complicated way because UMI software engineers are still struggling with the official release of CM for Rootjoy... or any other ROM for that matter.
I had a clients eMax mini TWRP'd and rooted already, so I could make extensive backups of his favorite apps & settings then I installed CM accordingly (guide from XDA / this forum).
