homescreen stuck on phone contacts screen

Hi

This phone, the Hammer. I have dropped it once and already the screen is cracked.

Anyway, my new concern is that once the phone is locked, or i put it down, when i pick it up again / unlock it, the screen that i see is always the last number dialled screen.

This happens even if i use the clean button to wipe out all the screens.

Why doesnt it just open up at the wallpaper screen? Why is it saving the last number dialled screen?

Has anyone had this issue before? Very annoying. Is it something in the settings for how the lock button works I wonder?
I have downloaded the rootjoy tool, but i dont see any updates available for 5.1

Is resetting to factory default an option?

Have restored to factory default. Yet the "speed dial" screen still persists. I lock the phone, I unlock it, and there is the speed dial screen! Arrggh! I dont want speed dial, I want the homescreen!
