Have done some tests to arrive at the followings:-

Basically the operating system fails to recognize the pin or pattern after a reboot.

The only way to get over is to do a factory reset.  Advice available post #37 by the Admin bencebascsi.  The same advice is given by Gearbest which responded to my ticket promptly.

Luckily the password section still work so use only the password to start the phone, thereafter Fingerprint and face recognition will work satisfactory too. Using pin will get "wrong pin" and pattern "wrong pattern".  This is a serious bug UMI must resolve quickly.  I now start the phone with my password.  Thereafter using either the fingerprint or face recognition to unlock.  It is not an ideal cure but to be fair the phone is now 100% functional and I have moved all my app and 14GB whatsapp data into it plus inserting a 256GB SD card.

Still trying out the other sections which appear satisfactory in my ceramic version. Mic, bluetooth, camera, phone and GPS all work as expected.

Nice phone.  Shame about the teething trouble which I believe is to do with the software and should be eradicated with an update.

Hi,

Received my Z2 Pro about a week ago, and I must say that I love this phone so far. The screen is good, the phone is fast, but obviously there are some hardware and software issues (that Umidigi are working on). I am on the 20180823 ROM.

1) Face recognition works well
2) Fingerprint recognition not too bad - do get some mis-reads when picking up the phone. Sometimes it says "too many attempts - try again later" and you have to swipe and enter the pin.
3) Camera: No issues with the camera app locking or crashing. In dark conditions the image quality is very average. Umidigi have stated that they are working on the camera and will provide an update at a later time.
4) Google Pay: (NFC) - works fine for me - no issues
5) Security Bug: I got the "invalid pin" error when my phone ran out of battery overnight. It was annoying to say the least. Umidigi have stated they have a fix and will be releasing it in their next update. What I do now when I want to reboot the phone is to remove security first. That is, I go into Settings->Security & Location -> Screen Lock, and set it to "swipe". This removes the face unlock, pin/pattern, & fingerprints. Reboot the phone, then the swipe unlocks the phone. Then I re-add the security: Pin/Pattern, Face-Unlock @ Fingerprint. Yes, this is a bit tedious, but is a workaround that means that you can still use security and reboot the phone, and is way better than doing a factory reset!
6) Phone Reception: Not as good as my last phone, voice from speaker a little crackly, but works fine
7) Wifi Reception: Poor on 5ghz "n" (No ac wifi!). My old phone could get 5ghz wifi at over 30m from the router, which was good. The Umidigi Z2 Pro fails at 10m from the router. This is an issue for me as this phone will cost me more money in data usage. Because the wifi is so poor it drops back to 4G LTE and hence uses my mobile data (expensive) - just walking around my garden!
8) Bluetooth: Tested at 15m working fine.

Hardware wise, the Wifi reception is an issue as it is so bad. Software wise, the camera app needs work and obviously the security bug needs fixing. Other than these things, I really like this phone.

UMIDIGI: Do you have an estimate of when the update will be ready? Can the poor wifi reception be fixed in software or is it a poor antenna design (hardware)?

In the rom section the most recent update is 20180830 but the ota version is 20180823 so I assume  ...

I know from my Elephone P9000 I had the same problem, installing the drivers for MTK is somehow difficult.
I had some trouble doing this to this time (had forgotten the sequens).
I've you follow the explanation in the link, I think it should work.
You have to use a Keyboard with cable (wireless is not recognised), hope it helps.
