I have the same problem, but with no relation with battery charging level.
Try to reboot the phone ...
It's unlikely not related to battery level. I guess it's the design. When the top of the phone is pressed against the hear the sound is clear. Sound level is ok on my BT stereo headset. Didn't try with wired headset.
