I think that there is a GPS module, as GPS Test app shows that the device can see GPS satellites in the Sky.
Good idea on turning off e-gps.  I have just done that and will do some tests

That does it.  My Umi's poor GPS performance caused me to lose about 40 minutes on a long motorway journey this weekend.  It just cant cope at major motorway junctions.  I watched the screen spin around before my eyes and ended up on the wrong route twice.  I ditched the Umi and hooked up my iPhone 4, which did not have the same issues and got me home fine.

So it's goodbye Hammer S and goodbye Umi.  I won't be back.
