was that correct? It hasn't made a difference

Has anyone got an idea what could be wrong with it? if I sent it back to the seller (coolicool) it would mean that I would be months without a phone The downside of buying something from China - and it shouldn't be this complicated really.

If you won't send to seller you can talk to seller for partially refund to cover screen replacement cost.
Then buy new screen and replace yourself or ask local service centre.

Thank you that is a good idea, although so far hey haven't offered anything towards repair.

Where would I find UMI parts and who would be able to fix it?

However, I do believe that this is not a hardware issue but somehow software. Because when I use the phone, sometimes it looks normal and fine, then I press a button to open a page or app or do anything to change the screen and the stripes appear. They properly fade in. I will try and take a video with another phone or something. It is most strange.
