Hi all, I decided to write this because I think it can be useful for owners and wannabuyers.
First of all I m not a professional reviewer so as you keep reading please bear in mind this is a user opinion, no benchmarks, no figures, just what happened to me during these 20 days.
1. Unboxing
The device comes with a nice alluminum box. It comes with charger (really fast charger) and USB type C cable. This can be an issue if you have some OTG devices already and, in my experience, not every adapter ensure OTG capability. Minimalistic instruction manual, sim slot pin. No hearphones.
2. Setup and usage
As easy as every android device used so far. Marshmallow 6 onboard, no bloatware, just plain droid. In italian language you could find some untranslated word but you have to dig deep into menus to find them. Its not an issue for me.
Received a firmware update 2 days after it arrived. It fixed a bug from camera (read further).
My device seems to love booting with bluetooth switched on. Can t understand why, everytime i reboot, the Bluetooth is on again.
Connection is ok, fast enough for me although it does not display 4G but 3G only. Wifi, bluetooth, screen mirroring, everything s fine and easy.
Orientation: as I already wrote, my gyro sensor freezes from time to time. Rebooting fix the bug, keeping the rotation on for the display seems to avoid it to freeze. Using display in different orientation, though, may make it freeze. You can minimize the problem by setting the option on the display control menu, which controls the orientation of text when the device is rotated.
The phone mic and speaker are good but not high. You could have some trouble hearing someone in a noisy enviroment. Same for hearphones. Music is clear, but again not loud.
Display is clear, the sensor reacts rather quickly to lighting changes. Comfortable angle of view, good colors and good level of control over the display settings.
Fingerprint sensor is quick and reactive IF you center the finger in the best position. Its quicker when you wake the phone up, first, and then unlock screen. If you fail to unlock do not get nervous. Align the finger with the sensor and it will go in a snap.
Battery is good for a day of use. I really cant set a benchmark here all depends on your level of usage. I usually use the phone to browse some pictures, snap pictures, play games (simple games, nothing really complex), chat, call and listen to music (mp3). With backlight set to minimum and Auto, i have 30% battery at 22:30 from 6:00.
3.Camera
I love photography and this is my first dual lens camera, one of the reasons I choose this device. How it works? Fine, for me. But just after the firmware update. Before that, it seemed to take out of focus images. Blurried and grainy. After that... well I m really satisfied with the image quality.
For getting the best out of this camera you must shoot with strong light and keep ISO values below 200. After that and till 400 you will have some grainy (still sharp) pictures. Beyond that level you will have some blurred images but... remember its a tiny sensor, and it is hungry for light!
How does it perform? See the images I m taking with it at www.eyeem.com/telemetro. The monochrome are taken with the special b&w camera of this phone.
As long as you shoot in bright light, keep the phone steady and do not need to print large, this is a good camera imho.
My post process workflow is: adjust curve, adjust sharpness, add vignetting.
Final word: my experience with this device is good, so far. As I keep reading through this forum I m feeling among the lucky ones. Maybe Umidigi was too hasty releasing this product but I believe they will not drop it and will keep us up! Umidigi, can you read? |
