Hello,
I have just recieved my UMI Z from the pre-sales, and the phone is really beautiful.
But after few minutes of testing I realized the gyroscope is defective. When I use VR apps like google Cardboard the phone interprets horizontal movements as veritcal, and vertical movemts as horizontal. The result is when I try to look down in a 360 scenary, my Point of View actually ends up turning right. When I look left, the POV moves down...
This is pretty weird. And after hours searching for every setting possible I realize this is really a deffect.
I hope there is a firmware fix for that. If not, do I need to send my telephone back?
Other people experienced the same problem?

Regards,
Pedro

It's a driver issue, that will be fixed in a later update. Please be patient until.
The Nougat development is not in progress yet, since MediaTek has not been released the Helio X27 Nougat SDK. More detailed news will come later.

Hi
About devices control.
Samsung and Apple didn't control all devices in all aspects too to avo ...

I understand that UMI has smaller budget than big companies, but you are not that small, and I am not comparing your phones with Apple's or Samsung's, but with Xiaomi, your chinese competitor which sell phones for the same prices as you do.Anyway, one single person, could be enough to test every single sensor on the phone. This is not the kind of problem that takes a lot of investment or time to control.
While testing battery quality and glass resistance on the long run can be much more complicated than just verifying if the firmware send the good settings to each sensor / component. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
Anyway, I am trusting you to solve this problem, since I bought an Umi phone for my girlfriend and she never had a problem with it. Also you provide much better support on forums than other competitors like Elephone.
By the way, being the first company to launch a x27 CPU phone is a nice achievement. But making your clients satisfied, and make them trust your brand is a much bigger one, believe me.
All that said, I hope you will keep on doing good work. But criticism is sometimes necessary to help you out.

Hello!

Same problem here.
Not only with the Google Cardboard app, but also with other VR apps.

And there's another problem:
Original Youtube VR app cannot be installed on UMI Z.
https://play.google.com/store/ap ... oid.apps.youtube.vr
According to the app's specifications (Android 5.0 or higher), it should be possible,
but Google Play Store tells me, that it cannot install it on my UMI Z

I also wrote an e-mail to the UMI support.

Please, UMI, take this problem seriously.
At the moment, this powerful smartphone cannot be used for VR.

Kind regards,
Ekkr

Hello MarcinP,
Thanks a lot for your support. It is really helpful.
I have tried calibrating GSensor and the Gyroscope, both on Settings menu and Engineering mode, as you suggested. And the the telephone got more sensitive. But the vertical and horizontal axis are still inverted for VR apps.
If you want to see what is the problem I recorded a video:

https://youtu.be/0V157azTT_w

The build number of my phone is UMI Z v3.01_20170116.
There are no news updates available.

I believe the issue can be fixed without sending the phone back. The sensors seem to work. Their outputs are inverted though.
Maybe with a firmware update everything will be solved.
What do you think?
Thanks a lot,
Pedro

Anyone from technical support read this forum?

Hi
I can try help you but as I don't have umi z yet you need follow some my information and give me some feedback too.
Firstly I would recommend you to go to settings - display - g sensor calibration and try calibrate.
Then if this doesn't help you can try go to engineering mode
Please open call dialer and type in *#*#3646633#*#*
You will be transferred to engineering mode - hardware testing - sensors - sensors calibration and follow instruction on screen.
Also you can perform factory reset (settings - backup and reset - factory data reset)
I can suggest to you check for updates as here is one available of course depending which build date you have firmware.
Please go to settings - about phone - build number and about phone - wireless update and check for updates
Here is list of updates

I was thinking about this and as you can see this phone has latest chip and maybe some apps can't be correctly supported. But we see.

Hi MarcinP,

I have tried it with dozens of VR apps, or apps that use Gyroscope, just to be sure. And I have the same problem with all of them.
It is not a matter of being new, its a defect on the way it is produced.

So, I have two possibilities in mind:
1 - the gyro chip was soldered inverted on the mainboard

2 - the firmware is giving inverted values to the gyro sensor

I believe all can be changed with a firmware update, as the gyro seems functional.
Hope my telephone is not the onl defective one.
Like this engineers will be obliged to release an update soon.

Anyway, you have been very helpful.
Thanks a lot!
