Ok further investigation points to the sound enhancement options hampering the volume and quality of the sound.

Disable the sound enhancements and run music through the built in equaliser or a 3rd party version.  You will notice louder sounds and better quality.

If anyone else can try  this for me that would be great, I'm not going mad sound enhancement does not work as intended.

It is sad that in order to put the things right in a phone (that it should be corrected by UMI devs) we have to install 3rd party apps.
So I managed to find a solution (to my case) about volume in income calls:
In Engineer mode its not enough to set higher UL GAIN or/and SIDETONE GAIN, if you dont set new index values....
NB
HEADSET
UL GAIN = 180
sidetone gain = 0

index 0 - 44
index 1 - 60
index 2 - 80
index 3 - 100
index 4 - 120
index 5 - 140
index 6 - 160

This have worked for me... despite the tunnel effect sound, the incoming call volume is now fine.

I don't change voice for calls, but changed for headphones and its definitely works well. 148/160 range is ok for me. Default 124 is too low in my opinion.
Proper code for engineer mode is *#*#3646633#*#*

I can barely hear the other person when I make voice calls. I change the voice settings in Engineer Mode to NB HEADSET GAIN=180 but that didn't make much of a difference.

The opening post also mentions "run it through the native or 3rd party equaliser", how can I do this?

Thanks.

Hi,

Settings /sound and notification / sound enhancement

Then make sure everything is off.

Open play store and install a graphic equaliser of your choice, I went with 'equalizer fx'  it's free.  Then when you run any music playback like deezer or Google music make sure under setting of that application is using the recent install of 'equalizer fx'

Hope that helps.

@Beatertech - Thanks for your reply. I already have all sound enhancements turned off. My issue is not with the music, it is with the volume when in a voice call. Will the equalizer help with that?
