Umi Support,

Can I get some response please? I have until January to return the phone to Amazon, if I don't get a reply soon I will simply return the phone, get my money back and buy a different brand!

This is unacceptable. You told me via the Facebook chat to send email to this address but it was futile as I am am still waiting for reply/support!

Regards,

Andrew Donaldson.

Hello Umi Support,

I live near Prague in the Czech Republic and recently purchased the Umi Plus from Amazon.de, I was very happy with the device until I noticed a serious problem with the LTE signal. This device is 100% compatible with the LTE networks used here in CZ/DE/UK.

My previous phone was HTC One M7 and I had constant LTE/4G signal everywhere.

I noticed the Umi Plus display indicated E and randomly toggles between E and 4G, despite others on the same Vodafone CZ network having strong 4G connection.

The device is set to 4G Preferred but it still often connects to E.

I searched on the Umi Community page and found the code *#*#3646633#*#* to the secret menu and I checked that Bands 3, 7 and 20 were enabled.

I found that if I went to Network Selecting -> SIM1 and selected LTE Only rather than 4G/3G/2G (Auto) the display constantly showed 4G connection and the data connection was permanent and strong.

However, I then discovered that when LTE Only is selected I can not make or receive voice telephony calls, clearly as calls are not made over LTE.

To resolve that problem I set it 4G/3G/2G (Auto) again but that only caused the original problem to return.

Despite being in a location with strong 4G signal the Umi Plus constantly toggles between 2G and 4G making it useless and not fit for purpose.

Is this a known issue? Is there an update/solution to fix this issue?

I have informed Amazon.de and I have until 31/01/2017 to return the device for a full refund, I would like to keep the Umi Plus because apart from this issue I am really pleased with it, but I need to know if there is a solution to resolve this problem.

Thanks for your help, I await your response,

Andrew Donaldson.

Bullshit! A motorola phone 3 years old has data connection (3g/wifi) in the same area and when you use it for a simple voice call works perfectly fine.
The UMI Plus simply doesn't work, this phone has an huge factory problem, could be the cheap antenna or the software.. it doesn't matter.

We spent money for something which is pretty much useless. UMI should have an official solution to the connection issue of their device or simply call back all the devices and repay their customers

I confirm that I also have the same problems in Italy with Tim manager. The phone often loses the LTE signal, in places where the Xiaomi phone had full reception LTE

anch'io con H3G ho notato lo stesso problema. il segnale va e viene, non è stabile il 4G. forse è un problema software? speriamo che con android 7.0 si stabilizzi. devo dire che UMI ci sta utilizzando come cavie...

Hi
I just wondering what build date of software you using settings - about phone - build date and did you ever updated your device to latest software as latest one is 20161019. I am not talking about Android 7.0 for now.
I thinking that your network provider not supporting 3G and that why you device only working on 2G and 4G cause such problems.
As you know dual sim cards phones need share space for two antenna and antenna needs to be small bit smaller which could cause weakness signal and aluminium body could cause less signal too. Definitely you can't compare plastic body phone to aluminium body phone and single to double sim card.
I using my umi phone in 4G network and I don't have this issues as you complaining.
You need understand that weak 4G signal is worse than good 3G signal that why phone is trying change from weak 4G to 3G but as probably your network provider doesn't supporting 3G then next available band is 2G (Edge)
You can always try use only one sim card and Swop from slot one to two to check antenna fault.

I forgot add that a lot network providers recommending using 4G only outside building as thickness of building walls could be different and cause weak signal.
If you want we can go step by step with checking your device to find problem and find solution.

My UMI Plus will only connect to 3g networks here in Ireland even though all frequencies are compatible and my network operator three Ireland is 4g enabled. Its not my sim it works perfectly in all other phones. The phone can detect the 4g network... But when I try manually select it always instantly falls back to 3g. Look it doesn't bother me that it doesn't work. But you are misinformed the phone is having serious issues with 4g. But it does detect 4g networks. I believe it's software issue

Believe me or not but Ireland has weaker aerials for mobile  network in all EU.
I know this as I using my self.
I don't have any issues with 4G outside house but of course in some weak spots still is no 4G reception.
Please update your phone to latest software and then try again. Which network you using?

I know this as I  ...

No not in my city where I live 4g is strong in my area. I'm on the three network. The phone picks up 4g signal full bars from inside and outside my house but has weird software errors. It connects to 4g but for some reason only for a few seconds. When I turn on the screen it drops back to 3g within a few seconds every time. I have been flashing custom ROMs and using recoveries for years I'm definitely more adept than average user. There is a software issue at play here with the specific frequency set up in Ireland. But the phone should be compatible hardware something is up software side. I'm running build 20161209 Nougat. I have a second Chinese phone with a underclocked p10 chipset which picks up 4g no problem in this location. My umi picks it up as well. It connects but cannot stay connected.. People from Ireland and England are making the same complaint to you. This is not coincidence we operate on similar frequency in Ireland and UK. This is software error on your end stop trying to say otherwise it has to be examined and fixed more people will keep having this problem from Ireland and UK and possibly other areas in Europe which may have same frequency set up

To reiterate... The phone also will not connect out doors. It connects momentarily then disconnects. Reconnects only when screen is turned off. Once screen back on disconnects within seconds of turning the screen back on...
