My new Umi Super can only focus near to the camera ie up to a maximum of a few meters away. Everything beyond is out of focus and blurry.  I have tried all options and tapping on different areas in the picture but the camera cannot focus beyond a few meters.  I can see it focussing on near objects fine.

Camera in Umi super is not good. Average on daylight but Terrible on low light. Pictures and videos in lowlight are just terribly terrible to say such

I can advise you to try with older stock camera app. If you want to do this please use software 20160708 but make sure you unchecked preloader as tp driver could be different. Of course you need use SPFT to do this.
If you won't loose your pictures etc uncheck data user.

Thanks for suggestions. I tried open camera and it is much the same but there is a strange indication of my problem.  When I set the focus to infinity it goes all very blurry and looks to be set at a close distance of 25cm or so (i.e. it is in focus at 25cm when set to infinity focus). It looks like the camera focus is either confused or jammed at a close setting! I tried open camera on my old Galaxy s3 and infinity focus is perfect for distant objects.  It suggests to me that the focus cannot reach infinity.  This explains why the camera is good in bright light only since the lens will have a long depth of field and objects at infinity will be nearly in focus....In low light much of the image will be blurry which is the main complaint from the reviews of this phone...Basically this camera is unusable but I am not getting any understanding from the retailer since they don't understand photography ...and don't care either.

Could you tell me do you have this problem since first day?
Did you dropped phone or box was damaged?
Maybe one of the lens is faulty (of course camera internal failure)
Am I understand correctly at day light everything is fine on long or short distance between camera and object in focusing?
Only you have problems at low light etc?
I can't really fully understand your explanation. Which stock camera app you using ( new or old)
Are you using auto mode video or photo or pro-photo maybe are you using default settings or your own settings,  are you using auto focus or manual focus, are you using zoom, on what colour you taking pictures ?
Tell me exactly what are you doing then I will try with my phone and then we can compare.

Hi
I don't think that swapping camera units is possible as first issue will be size of unit, mounting etc next hardware could not match, connectors etc next software will not match as screen is different in both devices. Please wait for android N as there should be improvement in pictures quality and focus speed.
