Edited by Frank at 2015-10-20 15:55 \n\n The UMI EMAX android 5.0 update is the latest, at this point no one should be surprised. Android will never get timely updates for the vast majority of devices, due to very simple reasons - 1. It takes a lot of time for an oem to build and test Android for their device. This is because Android lacks a true HAL + driver architecture that isolates the bulk of the OS and user apps from hw specific changes. This is how Windows works, so its a lot easier to test it for new hw. 2. Google doesn't offer any help - e.g. MS WHQL will test, support and certify drivers and once that's done, that's it - the device is now supported in pretty much all versions of Windows. No such capability exists for Android. 3. Google has no interest in timely updates and have said as much - they only care about the fees they get from licensing GPS to an oem. 4. Google only officially supports Nexus devices. Even for those updates can take months. Microsoft's WP was built from day one to deliver seamless updates to every device, even when it became free there was no 'its free and we can't control it' excuse that many people use for Android. iOS is a core business for Apple and they have a huge investment in keeping it updated, even though they have a smaller range of devices its still admirable. Google has made some steps to combat this - by moving more parts of Android (camera, launcher, search) out of AOSP and into Play store, but as long as the core OS remains locked its not very helpful or relevant.
