Ok, an update:
1. at some point Wifi has reconnected on its own, but I don't have confidence the pho ...

1. Go to 'Settings --> Security  location --> Location (under Privacy) --> Scanning' and disable both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning.
2. I can't reproduce your issue: once a bluetooth device is paired, you can disconnect and connect it again any times without turning off and on bluetooth on your phone. Did you flash your phone with SP Flash Tool?
3. Waze has compatibility issues with MediaTek SoC based android 8.1 devices. You can run any other navigation apps on the A1 pro without any issues. If your hardware is intact, the GPS quality and performance is above average.
4. Wi-Fi and bluetooth scanning can be responsible if not a third party app that you've installed. Read point 1 again.

Admin, are you working on a fix for streaming audio over USB? I'd like to be able to use my phone in the car.

Ok, great. Thank you bencebacsi.
Yes I have used SP Flash Tool. No fiddling, flashed 1st time without any visible issues.

What would you suggest for preserving battery and how to get some information about battery usage?
If I go to Settings -> Battery it says "Battery usage data isn't available"

Edited by JohnnyBishop at 2018-7-17 21:23 \n\nDisconnected from power at midnight. It's 2pm right now and there is 49% showing on my battery. Except one short phone call the phone has been on standby, unused for the rest of 14h.
At rate this phone is discharging is still defeating its ability to charge quickly.

JohnnyBishop  - I don't see the quick discharge on mine.
1) Malware -- some app is using your phone to mine bitcoin
2) just a broken app that is accidentally running too much
3) Being right on edge of wifi or cell reception. And the phone continuously drifts in/out of reception range. Drifting in/out triggers the radios to search for a new connection.
4) Something odd like a Bluetooth device is causing the phone to continuously wake up.

Doing the 'adb logcat' may give you some clues as to what is happening.

There is also something in settings called Duraspeed that I have not messed with.

1. I don't remember installing anything outside Google Play, no games, I believe no crappy apps, I would say only mainstream ones, but it was draining the battery since the conception before I even started adding more apps to this phone
2. again I cannot see what is actually using the battery
3. these options have been turned off, so the phone is not looking or connecting to alternative access points (suggested by Umidigi admin) this has actually resolved the problem with Wifi dropping
4. Bluetooth is off unless I turn it on, basically I keep turning it off when finished with my Bluetooth device.

thank you for your input

Perhaps it simply is a faulty battery?  Especially if the phone was discharging quickly since you received it.  My wife's phone doesn't seem to have that issue and she uses it a lot (and our son plays games on it as well) so if it discharge quickly it would be sitting on the charger most of the time.

Honestly we never got single report about A1 pro battery fault.
I would recommend start from scratch.
So
Format phone from settings (factory reset)
Removed sim cards, charge phone to 100% and leave for couple of days. The best would be leave for at least full week.
My A1 pro lasting around 8 - 9 days with two sim card but in standby.
Under standard using, always was lasting 24 - 48h with screen on 4,5-5,5h screen on with two sim cards and with mobile data on all the time.

The wife's phone holds a charge, I didn't mean I was having an issue - at least she hasn't complained about it.  Her only complaint was low volume when she's on Messenger using video chat with overseas family.  They say they cannot hear her.
