I read somewhere on the forum that the release date might be around the end of October. If it's around this period, then I'm willing to wait.

Otherwise I will go for the S2 Pro, however I don't know if it will have NFC like the Mercury edition.

S2 Pro don't contain NFC. There is plan to put NFC in to mercury silver edition but nobody knows yet what happen.

S2 Pro without NFC could be said to be a lame phone in some European countries. The UMI designers must be very limited when they project the phones to think only about the local market, which is a shame. But unhappily in this the UMI is not alone.

This is upsetting and you are losing customers by the day. UMI OS still sounds like software clutter and I can't even find a pre-order date for the S2 Pro anymore. And then I also have to read that the shipping of the regular S2 has been delayed by weeks. I'd also like to add: The way this company presents itself does not fill me with confidence. There is an outdated pool on the homepage, your English is really bad and apparently the glass of the S2 will not be curved despite being pictured that way. What am I supposed to think? You hardly manage to put a homepage together, how am I supposed to trust you with an Android OS? Will the interface on the S2 Pro be equally bad translated as your this site?

Is there any sane reason why I should wait for the S2 Pro (release date unknown), instead of getting something from Xiaomi or some other manufacturer right now instead?

Only if you will risk to get a hit or miss at a low price. If not I would suggest Elephone S8 as your best bet if you want to switch

The only reason I am still waiting is to hear some reviews about the S2 if anyone finally gets it XD because I really like the external look of the phone compared to all the others bezel-less I have seen

Unbiased reviews are very hard to comeby for any Umi product, which to me is another reason to be very on-edge. I also find their lack of transparicy quite unpleasant. I do like the design of the body and the fingerprint scanner on the back, which are the only reasons why I'm still considering this phone, but I'm not sure if it is worth the gamble and ending up with a potentially cluttered, incompatible or even dangerous bastardized Android.

Meridian you are right.... Umi releasing way too much phone and leaving them completely abandoned or say behind....no update no issues solved.... I have umidigi s...and its great hardware but horrible software...cant change launcher...system freeze..sigbal drop....all because of lack of development.... Yet you can not find almost any negative feedbacks...why is thst?
