Thank you, I do not have Umi Z1, only thinking about buying.
Maybe I experiment compiling with my ...
Sounds prefect way to learn it On XDA-Developers are many posts about compiling your own TWRP - also there's a dedicated Linux-Version
where you'll find everything already set up (http://BBqlinux.org/). It runs in a VirtualBox Machine too. You'll find everything you'd need already
pre-setup there for you. Getting your Build-Environment set up can be a hazzle. Let me know about your success

Hi I had the same problem and found solution on other forum. When you flash with TWRP recovery img you need to boot to it at first attempt if not it will be overwrite and won't work
If that happen you need to do the 6 step again (if you did not close the program).
To boot to recovery for UMI Plus E hold Volume UP and Power button for few seconds and then release power button and keep holding Volume UP. (it worked for me I had try it for a few times)
Hi,
Custom recoveries cannot be flashed on the C2 or any other UMI OS based devices, so even if someone created a TWRP recovery, that couldn't be flashed.
Hi. I downloaded the twrp image but I cannot extract it. Tried using 7-zip. I'm on windows 8 pro. Any advice. It just says data left after the payload when I extract the twrp image file. It's so complicated to root umi phones. My Samsung phones were so easy. It's very frustrating as this is never getting the promised android 7.0 update as umi are just liars. Anything to sell their product. I'm bored off the look of my plus E and rooting it opens up many avenues. Please help. Is there no easy straight forward way to root it.

Hi,
The provided twrp image is not compressed, so you don't have to extract it. Just follow the instructions in the tutorial and flash the .img file with SP Flash tool.
