$169.99 it's expensive for a phone with old CPU without support software.

When the real pre-sale period starts, the price will be $149.99

You can find the software support here: http://community.umidigi.com/forum-125-1.html

sigh its true the os is full of glitches such as the umi plus i could have unlocked it with anything ...

If your Plus has such issues, you should flash the latest ROM with SP Flash Tool in firmware upgrade mode. I've never heard about such a bug from other users.
If the touch screen of your Diamond has been decalibrated, you can easily recalibrate it with this app: https://goo.gl/64Au1C
That's planned to release UMIDIGI phones with Snapdragon SoCs in the future but the Snapdragons are much more expensive or the 4xx series is cheap but quite slow.

So what exactly are the differences between the S2 Lite and the S2? The specs and marketing page look almost exactly the same and I don't see anything other than S2 Lite will presumably not have the dead-end Helio CPU that can't get Android updates.

I feel cheated for having bought a phone a couple of months ago that was basically advertised with the same things and it's already clear that it will not get any Android updates beyond 6 because development focus is already shifting to new models that are nearly identical.

I don't know how you checked them but in the specs almost everything is different. The Helio P20 is a significantly higher performance processor than the MT6750T, while it consumes less battery power. Also, double size storage, fast charging, different cameras.
The developers can work only with the Android software development kits provided by the processor manufacturer, since it's not just a processor but a SoC (system on a chip) with all major features integrated in one single chip. Until now an Android 6.0.1 SDK is the only one provided by MediaTek for the Helio P20 (MT6757) SoC and 7.0 for the MT6757D SoC, that called both Helio P20 and P25 depending on its clock speed.

Here you have full specifications. Unfortunately there is no band 4 provided in informations. Until I don't have device in stock I can't check in engineering mode.
