There's a bunch of options controlling what apps are enabled to sit in background and how exactly:
* Settings->Battery->Protected Apps, you'll need to find apps you want and mark them (also named 'do not restrict backround data connectivity' or similar)
* Disabling/configuring DuraSpeed (my preference is to keep it turned off)
* Settings->Application Permissions->Do not stop on screen off, check apps you want to be protected
* Settings->Application Permissions->Whitelist, you'll need to find apps and add them
* Recent apps list (square software button), swipe recently opened app down and click Lock button
