I think:
1. Turn off Duraspeed
2. Check in Permission Management->screen-off white list apps that you want to not be cleared when the screen is off

No, this does not work. The Screen-off cleaning whitelist does not stop the apps being closed when in background.

Duraspeed off does nothing

This is a MAJOR  problem with the OS.. it is causing notification problems, and I cannot restart FB very often. You must be able to run apps in the background or the phone is not working as described. I am very close to sending this phone back to Gearbest.

Alternatively does any one know of another ROM?

Thanks,

T

The background apps stability seems to be very random. Sometimes they will stay open, sometimes not. Gmail seems to always close after a short time. Not sure if the whitelist setting had any effect. Certainly turning them off does not seem to make them close any quicker.

The most useful information would be: does putting the stock ROM on the phone fix this issue??? Anyone know?

There's a bunch of options controlling what apps are enabled to sit in background and how exactly:
* Settings->Battery->Protected Apps, you'll need to find apps you want and mark them (also named 'do not restrict backround data connectivity' or similar)
* Disabling/configuring DuraSpeed (my preference is to keep it turned off)
* Settings->Application Permissions->Do not stop on screen off, check apps you want to be protected
* Settings->Application Permissions->Whitelist, you'll need to find apps and add them
* Recent apps list (square software button), swipe recently opened app down and click Lock button

Please go to settings and find background tasks clear, if you have activated this option please add  ...

I did not even have to change any settings for multitasking to work.

I just run an app like a browser, then i hold the recent apps button (bottom left, left of home icon), then i choose a second app and it runs in the lower half of the screen below the first app (e.g. browser). I can adjust how much of the screen each of the two apps get. Works great.

Tried all these and different combinations. Apps still randomly stop when in background. I suspect they may be crashing, but not getting crash reports. Gmail and facebook seem the worst, but I use them a lot so I may notice them more. There are so many ways to control this, are the methods clashing? Which one has priority? Seems like Android implemented this without really thinking it through.

Guys, please any idea how to get this issue resolved. I have investigated all possible options in the Settings.

I open several apps and say the RAM usage goes to say ~2.5G. After I lock the device (or after a while) the background apps gets 'cleaned'. When i switch to these apps, they start to load from scratch.

It seems I cannot use more that ~1.7G of ram after locking and unlocking the phone. This is sad

'Screen off whitelist apps' doesnot help much. I tried putting all apps to be run after lock, still doesnot work correctly.

The multitasking is basic. Even low end phone have is properly. There is no use to have such a big RAM and not have multitasking functionality. This is real pity.
